My dad booked next weeks vacation into irmas path. Scrambling to find other options and reorg the complicated pickup for the boys. No renigging or postponing either thanks to my ex having a locked down schedule.... fml

If you're in the market for a flagship tier phone and want to save money and have a better experience (at the expense of an 18:1 screen ratio and "infinity" display rubbish) get the One plus 5. Better battery life, better Android experience, quick updates, and some good quality of life features for a decent amount less (plus more RAM, faster RAM, for a smoother experience, and fingerprint sensor that unlocks crazy fast and isn't in a stupid place next to the goddamn camera).
Else you can wait a bit and see if the LG V30 or Pixel 2 are serious contenders.
Don't get me wrong, S8 is right at the top of the market but a lot of its title features are gimmicks and won't matter in six month's time. Unless you're a huge fan of TouchWiz UI or whatever it's called these days there's no real reason to throw more money at an S8 than any other flagship phone, so you might as well get one that is better in function rather than form, for less cash.
Oh, and technically it has a better camera. But if that's selling you then definitely wait for the Pixel or V30. But really, phone cameras are pretty much at a plateau currently and most of the differences are in software not hardware (as shown by the One plus 5 getting an update recently that made its camera a lot better) so really there's unlikely to be a perceptible difference when they're not side by side comparisons anyway.
Elsewise think about what you really need out of your phone. Unless you're a power user who runs out of RAM or plays a lot of graphically intense games you probably don't even need to be shopping at that tier anyway - most people don't. We just do on reflex because we like the shiny. (in which case I fall back on why pay more for the functionally worse shiny?)
Plus, Samsung are the ones who made a phone that explodes regularly. Do you really trust them in your pocket?

Can't sleep right now, and I have an early meeting wth the vp to propose my next year's strategy... followed by the next 48 hours awake for a software deployment.

It's the sense of danger than makes the purchase all the more worthwhile!
Hadn't considered the OnePlus but you make a compelling argument, tho while about $250 cheaper than the S8, +/- $100 in chargers/cables/adapters offsets the value added a bit. Still, tempting...

How many cables/adapters are you gonna get!? They're both USB type-c afaik too, so any phone to computer cables will either need to be replaced anyway or you'll already have. The only major one would be the main charger which comes in the box afaik?
But it is legitimately cheaper, and from what I've read Dash charging is the best fast charge around, they even adverse that the phone stays cool while charging which goes a long way to offsetting the issues with battery life I've been moaning about for the past two pages. XD

Also monoprice dot com has good and very cheap cables for phones. I think I spent $13 on a 6 ft charger cable for my USB c phone and about $4 for a 10 ft USB or iPhone cord.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

Mary was a virgin, yet she was impregnated nonetheless.
By whom? God Himself.
What does that make God?
Mary's prime mate.
Prime mate.
Primate.
We were made in God's own image.

RIP Don Williams
I dont believe virginity Is as common as it used to be
In, workin days and sleeping nights
That black is black and white is white
That Superman and Robin Hood are still alive in Hollywood
That gasolines in short supply
The rising cost of getting by
But i believe in love
I believe in old folks
I believe in children
And i believe in you.

A host two doors down every now and then has a party in their garden. They bring in massive speakers and blast music out. It is very loud.
Now they comply with noise nuisance rules on the whole and stop by 11pm so I can't really complain but it's very annoying and I imagine those with kids nearby will be quite frustrated.
I sort of want to go round and say something but I don't want to be "that guy" who complains about noise or kicks up a fuss. What I really want is a tight beam EMP to wreck their sound system. Or that cursed rain that has been going literally all day to come back and ruin their fun...

Buy a cowbell. Every morning stand in front of their house and ring it while singing a pastoral song.
