Last night my son was dragging out his bed time good nights and it was really late. So I jumped up and said that I was going to leave. I started to walk out of his room and he said really quietly "good night daddy, see you tomorrow" I turned around and he had such a hurt look on his face. I felt so bad. I went over and gave him a big hug and kissed him good night. I felt like such an asshole and still feel like one this morning. I should have just let him talk for another 5 minutes.
How many fucking people do I have to hammer in order to get that across.

Yeah it's difficult getting the balance between getting them to bed at a reasonable time without them taking the piss, and giving them enough time to have a story and keeping them and everyone else happy.
My boy is very good, once he's off to sleep I go and get my girl. She drags her feet, wants another program, won't clean her teeth, and last night she wouldn't get into bed and was really beginning to wind me up.
I ended up leaving her upstairs, while I went to eat my dinner, but she carried on wailing the entire time. She's done this enough that I leave her to wear herself out while I eat, then I go up and give her cuddle and she goes to sleep in minutes.
When she's done this before, if I've been tired myself I've shouted at her or told her off, and all it does is make me feel awful and she gets worse. I don't want to her to feel that she's getting her way, but when she's that tired there's no point in reasoning with her - now I get on her bed, give her a cuddle and wait for her to sleep. It's way better for everybody.

So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

He will be really tired until we get into his room then he will wind right up and just bounce from thing to thing. At least he is sleeping through the night.

Lord i hate bedtime. My daughter just clings to my arm saying "I want you to stay! I want you to snuggle with me!"
So i fall asleep at 830 alot.
Home sick today. I hate being sick.
On the bright side, i just started Dancers Lament and i'll get some quality reading time.

I think it's worse when we've got a nice evening planned, and they don't fit in with the plans and instead of going to bed nicely like the night before, it all goes tits up as they want to mess about while we're trying to cook or watch a movie. Then we get impatient, then it gets worse.
I've learned finally that there is no such thing as 'losing your patience' when dealing with your kids. You need an infinite well of it to draw from. Besides, I don't want them having memories of Angry Dad shouting at bedtime, I want them to look back and know they had it good.

I dunno, but I'm going to drop by my doctor's office tomorrow. I was sick two weeks ago and that usually brings a couple week of shortness of breath (in addition to hay fever, I've had this problem ever since a doc decided to overlook my bronchitis a couple of years ago so I ended up not reacting to the antibiotics he prescribed when he finallY DID deighn to notice, which took several weeks of me repoting back with 'nope, still sick' regularly). But yesterday, I had an actual fit of laboured breathing for about twenty minutes and I've been short of breath all day today. Even if it's not asthma yet, it's way too close for my liking.
Edit: and the internet says it's asthma, 'cause I can check almost all the symptoms on the lists.

I just finished watching Trumps press conference and am now checking my symptoms on the internet. It says that I Cancer and possibly a heart attack. It also said that I should drink a gallon of pure tea tree oil and pure honey. Then my cancer will go away and my heart will be encased in liquid gold and be good for ever.

That aside, good that you're getting checked by a Dr., as there are bunch of conditions/infections/virii/extraterrestrial parasites that have similar symptoms to asthma, and a bunch of different triggers for actual asthma, and then different levels of asthma.

Yes, but mine is definitively caused by hay fever. It was just a question of WHEN I would get it, not if, and I got checked last year already, but the test was inconclusive so my doc dumped a bunch of information on me and told me to come back should I feel worse/have more clear symptoms. Hence my joke about the internet. With hay fever season starting over two months too early this year, courtesy of climate change, I'm not really surprised.

It may not necessarily be asthma though. When I had a particularly severe allergy bout last year, I had extreme shortness of breath for around 20-30 minutes, followed by shallow breath and wheezing for the rest of the day. It went away though.
