When my wife got her back scanned, the MRI showed a very obvious, physical reason for her continous leg pain - the herniated part of the disc pressing on a big bundle of nerves. This evidence didn't stop friends and relatives from repeatedly recommending osteopaths/chiropractors as they 'sorted out their back pain' for them. Even her mum was recommending this spiritualist guy who apparently harnesses the power of spirits to heal - in combination with a daily massage of course.

(She had surgery last week anyway, the offending bit of disc being removed carefully under microscope. And... her leg pain is gone. Must be the 'spirits'!)

Re. Dads in Ads (ha) yes the only time a Dad relationship with their kids is used is as a sort of sentimental, one-off event where they help out in some menial way.

When I'm going round the supermarket with one or both kids helping/hindering me, or taking them to the doctors, or school or whatever, there are plenty of other Dads doing the same; the world should be used to this by now.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

I haven't read them but apparently there is some research to suggest that chiropractors can help to reduce lower back pain with the potential to address the issue without ongoing treatment. However, for anything more than that it's almost completely anecdotal. I have no problem with people engaging in complimentary and alternative medicines if they wish to. I do have an issue with those CAM making false or unsubstantiated claims though. I also have a massive issue with people choosing to employ CAM methods instead of conventional (evidence based) medical treatment for their children (yet another mother is being charged for using CAM treatment to treat her child. The child died of strep. Strep.).

Matador often needs to discuss CAM with patients who say they prefer to treat their issue with homeopathy etc. He usually informs them about how there is no evidence to suggest these things work and that there is no regulation of the claims practitioners make. People are actually usually surprised because they just assume it's illegal to lie about these things so they must be true.

It's like that joke doctors make - What do you call a complimentary or alternative medicine that is supported by evidence, research, and clinical trials? Conventional medicine.

I don't know why all of these "alt-medicine" (imagine I spit that word out) people live in Canada. It is so annoying to me the number of otherwise intelligent people that fall for these scams and pay out of the nose for stuff that doesn't work. Homeopath my ass.

And the children have to pay the price for these idiots' selfishness.

Went to put on my headphones to listen to the new episode of Lucifer, and somehow in the last 2 days since I watched something on my computer, the headphones broke. Mysteriously. They were even sitting on top of the PC tower where I sit them when not in use.

They're over-ear types with the firm plastic brace over the top of the head, so it would have taken a bit to do it. I am not happy. They gave me nearly 5 years of sterling service. The damage looked like it was a clean snap too, not with that whitish worn look as if years of taking them off and putting them on finally caused it to snap.

Been checking out new ones, probably nip in to JB HiFi to test some out. Might spend a bit extra for good noise-cancelling ones as a Xmas present to myself.

Still, I would rather not have had to do this.

Matador and I recently bought ourselves a pair each of the Logitech G933 headphones. We're both really happy with them. I'm not a tech person so not sure what things to tell you about them but they are comfy, they work well, and I like that I can just plug the wireless USB into my PS4 and have them work straight away. ;)

Let me first begin by saying that I fully support breastfeeding mothers right to feed whenever and wherever.

In Australia, we have parents rooms in public buildings and shopping centres. These are rooms that usually include a changing bench, nappy bins, curtained booths with comfortable chairs, a small play area, a toilet with an adult sized and child sized toilet (large enough to take a pram or trolley into), and usually a few chairs in the main area with a tv that is set to the national broadcaster's children station.

These rooms are for the use of all caregivers - mums, dads, grandparents, babysitters, anyone who is taking care of a child.

And yet, frequently you will come across women who view them as 'mothers rooms'. They like to death stare any man who enters and tend to act like territorial bitches.

My brother followed his partner and son into the parents room today and there was a woman breastfeeding in one of the booths but she chose to have the curtain open (totally fine) and had turned the chair so it was facing out of the booth so she could see the tv. Now, as a man, my brother is always uncomfortable around breastfeeding women, not for any reason other than the fear that the woman will accuse him of perving if he so much as glances in her direction. So when he entered and saw her he asked his partner if she was right to toilet their son and then he left the room.

The woman then gave my brother's partner an earful about how inappropriate it was for my brother to look at her and that he shouldn't have just walked into the room like that (the public *parents* room). She used some choice words as well. My brother's partner just left without saying anything.

My brother thinks it's funny. I find it fucking offensive. I hate the entitled mentality that some women have in regards to parenting. I hate every single person who buys into the bullshit that 'mothers know best'. I hate that fathers and male caregivers are made to feel inferior, stupid, incapable.

I will fight anyone who says a woman shouldn't breastfeed in x situation or place. But if you aren't comfortable breastfeeding around other people (which is perfectly fine by the way) then use the bloody curtains and don't just expect men to give up their right to look after their kid in order to maintain your comfort.

It saddens and annoys me that my brother didn't stay in the room and it saddens and annoys me that his partner didn't feel she could correct the woman.

I would have liked to have been there so I could have explained to that mother that I am sorry that she doesn't feel comfortable breastfeeding in front of a strange man but that he is just as entitled to use these facilities as she is.

Couldn't have put it better myself - totaly agree with you. It doesn't help that in the uk at least ALL advertising relating to kids products is aimed at'mums' as being the sole guardian/decision maker/carer etc. Not a dad in sight.

Spot on Loki.

You know what drives me crazy? When there isnt a baby changing station in the mens bathroom. I took my girls to Barnes and Noble (bookstore) a few weekends ago and the youngest dropped a poop bomb that went eeevvvverrrrywwhhhheeerrreeee. And i had to change her laying across the damn sink.
I've always been crazy but its kept me from going insane.

I saw an article recently about how changing tables are going to start being placed in mens bathrooms. I was really surprised to discover that they are almost exclusively found in female toilets in the States. I mean, before parent rooms were a thing here the baby change table was located in the disabled toilet. So both mums and dads could use it. The idea that a dad can't change his child's nappy is ridiculous to me. We get a lot of things wrong in Australia but I think this is one of the things we do well.

Edit: It actually reminds me of something that happened once. i was at the Redbank Plaza and a dad walked up with two kids in a trolley to use the parents room but it was closed for maintenance. There was a sign saying to use the temporary change table - that was set up in the female toilets. The dad looked me and asked what he should do. I told him to do what the sign said - use the temporary change table. He was really uncomfortable about but I told him that female toilets have only stalls with doors on them so privacy isn't an issue and if any woman got angry at him for being there then he should tell them to change his kid's dirty nappy instead. He ended up going in and I left before he came out again so I'm not sure if he had any trouble.

The real injustice here is that babies are not born toilet trained. I mean who do they think they are? Crapping in the middle of a bookstore? I'd like to do that but I'd never get away with it!

You've got to believe in yourself, Mezla. You can do what ever you set your mind to.

Tomorrow you march right into that bookstore, squeeze those bowels and don't let anyone tell you no. You're a woman. Let them hear you roar (or what ever sound you want to make?)!

Bought the wife a new (to us) vehicle a couple weeks ago since I was tired of having ours worked on and wanted something reliable.

Yep, she broke down on the way to work, so I had to take her my work van and I'm sitting here waiting on a tow.

I had some postcards (well, "some" being five versions 100 each) printed and the bastards at the online printer's shop cut off too much on one side. They're always so anal about sending in data with the proper measurements for the bleed area, and now this.. NOW. Any other series of postcards would've been fine, but this one has an art deco border. I am so freaking pissed. I can't have them reprinted in time, and even if I could, it wasn't my respinsibilty, my files had the proper measurements. If they mess up the calendars as well, I'm so going to rip them a new one. Personally. (Well, not really, but I'm sure indulging the sentiment...)

Let the manager know of the issue in writing, plus the time frame. Maybe something can't be worked out this time, but next time, things will be better.

You can also pull that specific postcard and sell the other four.

I wrote to the customer service. And it's not just one postcard, it's three out of the five, which now leaves me to recut 300 cards by hand *sigh* Have I already mentioned that I got three hours of sleep in the past 48 hours? So much for finally getting some sleep... Oh well. At least the colours came out well!

Another problem is that due to the now reduced border on the backside of the card (where the stamp goes), they cannot be sent by mail anymore, as they're not meeting the requierements of the potal service. Yay?

Also, I just discovered there are more cards than I ordered.. as in, 120 instead of 100 in the batch I am currently cutting to size.. What wa sthat supposed to be? A 'sorry, we fucked up, so we'll sneak in 20 more just in case' or what?

They were gripes relating to the whole world of breastfeeding irrelevant of your personal feelings on the subject so technically it was the right word to use but in reality I could have phrased it better :(

Seems trivial, but razor burn.

No matter how sharp my razor is (Wilkinson Sword Hydro 5), how well I lather my face with foam (Gillette Sensitive) or whether I shave in a hot shower or use a warm towel to softer the hairs, I always end up with really bad razor burn, or in some cases I end up with some ingrown hairs on my chin and neck.

Anyone else have this issue or is my face just crap? I'm debating changing to a safety razor, but don't want to fork out unless I know it will help, so anyone who uses one feedback would be great.
