Just leafing through the Sunday paper and my reaction to five of the opinion pieces on the editorial page was "Fuck Off!"

They all seem to be factually misinformed, selectively factual. or just indulging in wishful thinking

Is something wrong with me, or the writers?

Goddamn backache waking up - these memory foam mattresses are shite after a couple of months. I'm laying in a trough. And I'm not heavy.

I need to find something else.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Test results came back negative for everything. Got one more for IBS. Great, right? Well, no. Because it means I have something wrong with me that I have a horrid feeling I'm going to be a long time waiting for a diagnosis on.

PM/Facebook me if you want a chat - have had similar for years and am now stuck at "it's probably IBS" and my insides still don't work!

Have you guys done a full exclusion diet? I had the same thing for years and was given the 'probably IBS' diagnosis but when I switched family gps I was referred to a dietician. I did a full exclusion diet - it took me nine months compared to the usual twelve weeks! - but by the end I had a list a mile long of foods that either individually or in combination with other foods worked to give me all my symptoms. It was the best thing I have ever done health wise. I highly recommend it.

Once I'm settled in the new place I'm going to task new GP with this I think. I tried six months off dairy and gluten individually with little change - and to be honest most GPs just give up there. You're not ceoliac and you're not lactose intolerant - bye!

I am lactose intolerant but I have no issue with gluten. It turned out to be things like nightshades and tomato and fructose. It also helped to show how much was a problem. For instance, I can eat a serving of fruit but if I have a bowl of fruit salad I will be regretting it for some time later on.

For me, there are some foods I have to avoid completely and other foods I just have to be mindful of the amount and/or what else I will be eating. A lot of my issues are cross-reactive (I think that's the term).

I have to avoid onion and spanish onion but I can have leek and chives. That kind of thing.

Seriously, if you can afford to do it with a specialist I really recommend it.

One other thing, have you had your pancreatic enzyme production checked? I don't produce the enzyme that breaks down a type of fat so fatty/oily foods would cause me great pain - bloating, bowl issues, cramping, fevers, headaches etc. I now have an enzyme replacement I take before eating fatty foods that stops those symptoms.

I spent over a decade trying to fix my health and within 12 months of having a new gp she had me sorted by sending me to the right specialists and ordering the roght tests.

Haven't had that checked, no. Thanks Loki, I'll bear all this in mind when I set up with my new GP and push for a specialist :( I know you can order food allergy tests online from various companies but I'm never sure how effective they're likely to be.

If you're not doing allergy testing via an immunologist then be careful. A lot of allergy tests aren't very accurate or only give you a possibility percentage. It needs to be tested off your blood and even then it needs to be the right kind of test. Otherwise you can end up spending a LOT of money for a weak answer.

And keep in mind that allergy tests don't cover intolerances like lactose intolerance. And most bowl related symptoms are a result of intolerances since allergies create an immune response.

Yes don't get online allergy test kits. They're weakly regulated in Europe at the moment so the manufacturers claims about what they can do are unlikely to have been scrutinised by an expert. Snake oil!

Oh great, medical problems.. I came to bitch about them as well. Been having issues with headaches for almost two weeks now, the kind where I can barely turn my head. And nothing is helping. I just hope it's a new side effect of my yearly anti-allergy shots and will go away when they're done, but spending the weekend wanting to stick my head into the abyss so taht this might finally go away sucks. And I need to be working, not feeling sorry for myself.

Could they be migraines? I am usually thoroughly against energy drinks but I have found that downing a V (red bull doesn't work for some reason) when those types of headaches start to come on often aborts it. Might be worth giving it a shot?

Also, when did you last have your eye sight checked?

Mmh, maybe? I often get weather-influenced headaches, but this feels different. Again, I suspect the anti-allergy shots. The headaches started the evening of the day when I got the first one for this course, then got a bit better, then started up again with a vengeance when I got my second shot. Or maybe I'm imagining? Or maybe it's that AND the weather. I'm going to swear off heavy food like my doc recommended until the shots are all done, and see if that helps. And also try that energy drink thing - I also usually hate the stuff - but I need to be up and lively at a local ComicCon next weekend.

Last Christmas, and it's been steady for a couple of years now, so I don't think it's an eye sight problem.

Today caps a 10 day stretch of continuous allergy attacks. I simply can't get anything done. Less than 50% efficiency.

According to my newspaper my city's fine particulate matter count is 5 times the safe limit - around 236. All this air pollution is clearly bad for me.

I wish I could go live somewhere clean

Starting a minimum five page assignment due in 8 hours at 11 PM.

Taking bets on who isn't going to get any sleep tonight (or a good grade).

Jesus, this happens every fucking time I have a paper due. You can go back in this thread and pinpoint the days I have had to hand in papers by my posts.

Someone needs to beat some sense into me. Vigorously and with extreme prejudice.

(yeah I'm still procrastinating.)

Same here. Currently finishing a Library Report on Service Design. I have a presentation on Friday and the report is due for Friday or Monday. And I have STILL not really gotten into the nitty gritty of the analysis.

It happens every time I have to deliver a paper. I am a terrible human being.
