Sometimes my search for a new everyday, all-purpose hoodie is such a soul-grinding experience. Finding the right price point VS quality VS fit VS comfortability...it's just a shit show. I had a Lulu hoodie from about 7 years ago that I wore ALL THE TIME....all three zippers on it eventually busted and could not be fixed...so I've been about 6 months now trying to find something to replace it with (Lulu has never remade this particular hoodie or anything like it)....and nothing I come across is either worth the money (American Giant seems to be popular and fit all my criteria, but their website is not friendly to Canadian credit cards and their paypal linkage is SUPER broken) or worth the time (American Apparel is SO basic, not as comfy as it should be...and therefore overpriced at $60). I'm willing to pay a little more for one that hits all my bells and whistles...(my Lulu was probably $130) but that means it has to fit, be comfy, AND Last a long time.

I don't have this much trouble with ANY other article of clothing. And I lurve wearing hoodies.

Why don't you go with the Lulu again if you were happpy? Or replace the zippers via tailor? The replacing of a zipper is not difficult to do.

Failing that, go with Marmot or Patagonia. My Marmot hoodie has lasted quite a while with zero complaints and I love every bit of Patagonia's gear (including my rain jacket), although I wish I had the budget to go up to an Arc'teryx or one of the super-high end companies.

Oh, I would if Lulu made a hoodie like this again. They never have sadly. I look constantly. The zippers on Lulu gear are embedded/locked in the fabric turns, and as a result are SUPER hard to be fitted with new zippers. Even the Lululemon store told me they could not do it.

I've seen Marmot, but I've never heard anything about it...so that'd good to know you dig yours. I love Patagonia as well. I'll look into both. I'm also pondering North Face (I love all my North Face gear).

It's just that I need a whole checklist to be met before spending money.

Thanks for the recommends though, I'll look into both brands more closely for hoodies.

EDIT: Oh man, If I could afford the Arc'teryx stuff too! The closest I get to it is the Swiss brand KUHL...which has excellent gear like that.

I consider Marmot to be higher quality than North Face - which is oddly available in flood-the-market knockoff quantities in Nepal because China and the knockoff factories are right there.

My serious winter outing jacket is a Spyder - which has lasted me a decade and has proven itself worth the expense. My only quibble is that the jacket itself is white and got somewhat grimy as I moved dozens of bags of cement etc in the winter time years ago. I don't think they do hoodies.

Good luck in your quest. Hoodies are important - which is why I went with the Marmot for serious fall/early winter business and this Threadless Sushi one a couple years back in zip up style (https://www.threadle...duct/3060/sushi) for fun outings.

Not going to see Iron Maiden on the UK tour. Got all excited and then found out the *cheapest* tickets are pretty much £60 after fees - and that's to sit in the lap of the gods in Leeds Arena. The more expensive ones are £60 before the fees....

Sorry, but I'm not paying that for an hour and a half when I paid £4 more (after fees) to see Springsteen do over three hours.

Well,to keep the Elient/Soultaken analogy going: Tiam (the boss) was out of the bldg when Menandore and Sheltatha Lore began arguing over borrowed and damaged tools. then Dana the Conplaina joined in for the sake of complaining. (I was out front having a good time with the adoreable Curdle and Telorast when the mayhem out back moved up front, causing those two to veer unexpectedly. I dove for cover, naturally. then the boss showed up again and started hollering at everyone, starting with me, of course.

Springsteen is of course an exception, Very few others are going to invest in a concert like he does. Saw him in '80 and '82 and they're still the best concerts I've ever attended.

I saw Elvis Costello once, and while I loved his early music and still do, he performed for only 45 minutes. What a rip-off.

Seems pretty standard for arena tours over here - the 90 minute thing. I think it's just the way big band tours have gone now - Black Sabbath were charging something exorbitant on their recent tour as well.

Kruppe - only seen him recently (Wrecking Ball tour 2013 and the recent River Tour) and they're the best concerts I've seen too

Springsteen is older than most of Iron Maiden also, I was meaning standard for arena tours whoever they are - 90 minute headliner sets are fairly typical across age barriers here. Don't know if it's different elsewhere.

Has anyone here ever actually performed two 45 minute sets? I have. It's exhausting. and that was when I was in my prime. Springsteen's secret is that he tells engrossing 5-10 minute stories between tunes. That, and he has made a pact with the devil.

Most concerts I've been to have a warm up band for about a half hour, a break, a sixty minute set, a halftime break, a forty five minute set, a break, an encore.

My Morning Jacket played two and a half hours with an intermission of about ten minutes. I saw them on the second night of a four night stand at the Beacon in NYC last year and on a Saturday night in New Jersey. That was super impressive considering how much energy they pour into playing. Hallahan the drummer was completely soaked in his sweat by show's end.

So 90 minutes is still on the short end for the stuff I'm used to.
