I think it's a bit of bullshit to be honest. There are a few really obvious tongue ties that you can understand causing difficulty with feeding or creating a speech impediment later on. Then there are also a lot of slight ones and there's so much hot air around whether there might be problems later that they'll need a general anaesthetic to have fixed that you think you may as well get it snipped nowl and have done with it.
I think you're right. Her tongue tie is very minor (and frankly I doubt they'll snip that), but her lip tie is very tight and does cause difficulty feeding on one side where she literally cannot get a deep latch. My hope is that they fix the lip tie for the feeding reason (my poor wife is distraught about it, and it physically causes her issues) but I'm fine with them leaving the tongue tie. I'll find out in a little while as the appt. just ended at 10AM.
EDIT: Tongue and lip tie's both snipped easily. She cried what my wife calls "real tears" for a bit, but seems okay now. The lactation specialist saw her tie's and said that is exactly what's causing the problem on the one side when feeding (for both mother and baby), and that she should be much better now. They go back in a week to follow up and make sure all is healed and going better. That's a relief to be honest.
