Sleep deprivation. Too much work. The next 3 weeks at work are gonna be death for me. I'm already dreaming of Saturday evening, when I can get get some sleep (Saturday morning and day is currently shaping up to be full of necessary non-work-related stuff to do)

Apparently bread manufacturers are putting POttasium Bromate in the bread which is a carcinogen. This thing is banned in EU, Canada etc. but apparently not in India or the US?

I want to change my relatively obsolete gaming laptop with a new one.

All the good laptops are retardedly expensive, and the 12% flat tax on all purchases does not help at all.
I'm depressed.

Edit: "change with" or "change to"? I'm too sleepy to deal with English propositions,

Why not a desktop instead? You could hook it up to your TV. Couch PC gaming is the bee's knees.

A desktop is impractical for someone with my level of addiction.
I can't go without my laptop for more than 24 hours (not even kidding, I go full on heroin addict looking for a fix without my laptop, people don't even bother talking to me). I do realize that I can keep my current laptop and buy a PC, but in that case I am paying a retarded amount of money for a computer that I will only use for gaming, without improving my situation while I still do other processor heavy stuff on my laptop.

Additives permissions vary a lot in the world, there are probably other shitty additives that are permitted in India and allowed somewhere else. There is still a lot of bullshit colourings and preservatives allowed here in europe and they're used here in Czech for example a lot. 99% meat products that are not frozen meat include sodium benzoate. Even all the bio stuff have it. Only thing I've found made in Czech that didn't include this was Bavarian sausages made by one specific manufacturer. With cheaper stuff you also usually get cochineal in it and so on. Food here gets a lot of additives generally because it makes it significantly cheaper and that's what most of people here will buy. It's mostly way better in Germany, although finding a good cheaper flavoured drink without sodium benzoate there seemed impossible. Amount of it in the drinks was certainly lower than what they put in the meatproducts here.
We have a really good website(it's in czech language only) which includes all used and permitted additives with descriptions and scores each on 0-6 scale (potassium bromate is 5). It's not like the score was everything-telling or accurately signyfying the unhealthiness of the additive but it's the best to go by here. Then people can add food products to the site with ingredients and you can see there clearly what the product includes and then there is tab for the product with another score factors like additives, flavourings, hidden glutamates etc and it gives you overall healthiness score for each product.

All in all additives are everywhere and although most of the are fine there are shitty ones too

Btw the potassium bromate is in some of Burger King products too.

I wouldn't worry about sodium benzoate, it's a widely recognised as safe food preservative... you are more likely to get ill from eating non-sodium benzoate food which spoils as a result.

Potassium bromate doesn't seem particularly bad either, it's a IIa carcinogen so in the same class as coffee or red meat. At the levels detected (less than 25ppm by the looks of it) I wouldn't be massively concerned (though the fact that the bromate hasn't broken down at the temperature bread is cooked at surprises me somewhat)

The search for daycare in our city for our soon-to-be-born is like a slow, swirling descent into a money pit of entropy. Within the city it's literally $2000/month, and outside in the suburbs it's about $700-800/month. The good news is that we ARE moving to the suburbs, but the bad news is that we need city daycare for at least a year before that occurs. So for a whole year we may end up having to pay (Minimum) $24,000 for it. Honestly, at $2000/month I wonder if a live-out nanny is perhaps a better idea? Goddamn this search sucks. Realizing that the city daycare's are basically getting away with charging whatever they want and gouging parents who simply don't have the money...simply because they know they can...is upsetting me.

Go to the local military base, Jewish synagogue, or Hindu temple and ask people where they put their kids. Will probably find someone decent, if not top notch.

I'll look into that Amph, thanks!

I'm just annoyed because out of all our provinces, only Quebec has universal daycare (which PAYS for itself and makes more profit than the rest of the country daycare on a daily basis) and they pay $174 per month. Under $200 a month for chidlcare across the board, no matter where you put them. Has been proven to work very well and still the federal gov't tries to tell us that "it can't afford to do that"....meanwhile Quebec spent a decade proving them wrong. Ugh. And it's only getting worse as the years go by. It's this kind of nonsense that I can't stand with gov't. A proven system that works like social security or healthcare and they drag their feet.

Now you know why so many people sponsor foreign nannies. My boss did well with that. After a few years, they can get their Canadian citizenship. And you thought they were just being all posh...

Seriously though, it looks like 2 kids is the point at which it makes more financial sense to hire someone. You pay a nanny by the hour. You pay the daycare by the kid.

The daycare issue has HUGE economic impact. My job is pretty high income. It makes sense for me to pay $24,000 a year so that I can make six figures. My family still comes out ahead. But for someone who makes an average Canadian income, which Google tells me is now ~$50,000, it's much less worth it. For someone like my cousin's wife, she has only a high school education, partial community college, and speaks hardly any English. She originally planned to back to school, learn English, and train as a secretary or something of that kind when their daughter was a year old (standard mat leave here is 1 year. so it was a reasonable thought), but crunching the numbers, it didn't work out. After paying tuition, then considering how much money a secretary makes, then how much they would have to pay a daycare to look after their daughter so that she could go be a secretary and make so little, it made more sense for her to be a stay-at-home mom and comfort themselves in knowing that their daughter is getting lots of family time. Makes you wonder how much our productivity suffers and how many families are not achieving their full potential because people have made the same calculations. I actually think that staying-at-home so much is driving my cousin's wife slowly mad too. She's actually a very bright woman and I can tell she's getting depressed.

Indeed. Our combined income is on the mid-high side (mostly because my wife makes much better money than I), so we can MANAGE the $2000 but it's FAR from ideal.

It drove my Ex wife damn near batshit insane to be a stay at home mom for as long as she did. I was in the military making decent enough money but when you want the option to work and you realize just how badly it will affect you financially... There has to be a better way than having one person be the "stay at home whatever" while the other person has the added pressure of being the sole provider.

Standing in some asshole surgeons OR because they didn't have their shit together and now I am the delivery boy. Also staying late as a trade off with another resident, but it was dumped on me last minute. So I am really pissed right now, standing here, for some asshole surgeon.

My uncle. My uncle is quite rich and now spends his retired life travelling around the globe and taking tons of pictures. Which would be fine. Except my uncle is also an asshole who goes out of his way to offend people. For example he asked to see my cousins new watch for the sole purpose of telling him its cheap and shitty, and will break easily. My cousin saved up for that watch.

Recently he has started travelling to places and doing things I have always dreamed of but can't see myself doing for the foreseeable future. And of course he is plastering these pictures everywhere. Now if this was FB I would ignore. I do this all the time. But the guy is such a narcissist he is sending group emails to all family members with links to his albums asking for feedback and comment.

WTF.

I always check email notifications immediately as I get some time-sensitive stuff and I have dropped important stuff to check my phone to find its another one from him. Infuriating.

I'd argue the reverse. If you are in line to inherit something. Block him. It's not like he'll notice.

If you don't care about feasting on the relatives financial carcass, then why not just tell him you feel like he's being an ass, instead of just spending years being a mad at a person who is enjoying his life.

I have to be honest, from the little information you posted Andorion, it just sounds like you're frustrated that you don't get to travel as much as he does. It's not your Uncles fault that your message settings are set to alert you of all emails. He's not posting e-mails to make your life worse.
