Toooooo much work for toooooo many days has left my brain so fried that I cried when Mr PigDog said today that he couldn't bring himself to give a shit about folding pillow cases as neatly as I wanted him to!!!! I just have to keep going for 2 more weeks and then I can properly de-stress. Resorting to the temporary route to salvation at the bottom of a glass of gin and tonic right now.

The inexplicable panic and lack of concentration I get when put under one on one exam-style pressures. Just today I had a piano exam, which I had practised fairly well for, and during it I felt like I had only ever first seen the pieces and scales the day before. It sucks and I am envious of those who can cope with this ordeal.

I recommend in the run up spend some time trying to visualise yourself in the room and doing the exam. All the minutiae of the beginning - walking in, saying hi, taking your seat and getting started. It has worked for me when I was first trying to train myself out of being nervous about standing in front of people to give presentations. I think it just helps reduce the "rabbit in the headlights" feeling right at the beginning. Although my above statement may prevent you from trusting my stress relieving advice!

That's some sound advice - but I think I'll avoid exams for the next few months or so in any case.

@Excidius, I used to practice for oral exams with a little stuffed toy duck sitting in as a mock examiner. I found it more helpful than practicing in front of a mirror. Nothing really beats practicing in front of a real, live person, of course, but most of the time that is not an option.

It's browser hijacking malware. It possibly came bundled with freeware or something like that and you didn't notice. This might help, but I dunno. These sites always seem like ads for Malwarebytes or similar products. But running antimalware software isn't a bad idea anyway, so: http://malwaretips.c...cassiopesa-com/

Chrome (by Google) and Firefox (by Mozilla) are third party browsers. Internet Explorer is default for Windows, Safari is default for Macs (I think).

Also run hitman pro and malwarebytes. Also avira. I dont know what this type of malware is but I had something similar happen to me where the malware somehow synced with my gmail account and kept installing itself as a chrome extension. Was a pain to get rid of but managed it.

Try this:

Right click and selct Properties for each browser. In the Shortcut Tab, there will be something called Target There it will be written "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" or something analogous fo rChrome of Firefox. If the broswers are infected there will a chain of gibberish after exe. Delete everything after the exe close quotes and then press OK

That's what is confusing me. I trashed the shortcut and used Malware Bytes to get rid of it and somehow it's still there. Groove messed with.

You may have better luck going into your Programs folder on the Control Panel. There should be an option to uninstall it there. Because they're mini-programs and have a tendency to embed, anti-malware doesn't do much. Failing that, a System Restore to last week might be an option.

Speaking of computer issues.. Messing with my groove is that the newest version of IE I can use on the work computer is IE9, which means lately I cannot even properly access some stock image sites I NEED to access. And just getting Chrome or Firefox (old versions at that, too) installed is a huge pain which means waiting for a whole chain of people to get into gear. This is so ridiculous.

Adding to that, I had to move the computer to another desk this morning. Did Mr. 'Could-you-please-put-the-cables-away-somewhere-so-that-everything-looks-neat-and-tidy' bother to help when I was moving tables and crawling on the floor to get said cables out of sight? Nah.

Yes he does. EM, just go to vaja.ir or drop in to one of the friendly shopfronts near you and the staff will be delighted to educate you on the difference. ;)

@Puck
At my work, we are still running on XP Service Pack 2, and IE7. Makes viewing any website built or maintained after 1996 a bit of a chore. Recently I was amazed to find out that ours is not the only large organisation to still be running that combination. Sheesh. :) :p

I remember Windows 7 I think.....it had that green loading progress bar... I was so happy becasue it was a huge improvement over IE 6, but then I switched to Chrome and Firefox and I never looked back.

But seriously how do you guys work with this?

A staggering number of organisations (especially banks and the like) rely on older versions of both Windows and IE for certain programs they use which are not compatible with newer versions. It's a curse born of these organisations being allergic to change by virtue of change being a risk factor - more so in the case of software as it is a bit of a black box to many who don't work with it directly.

Eventually this tendency catches up with the present; upgrading gets left for so long that it becomes an even more gargantuan and risky endeavour than it was perceived to be a decade ago. Then the company is forced to upgrade or be doomed to eventual system collapse.

The worst part is, banks leave themselves exposed to a lot of hacking and security exploits by doing this, as old versions of Windows and IE run out of support from Microsoft...

Fortunately this is changing, slowly, but most bigger, more established companies (and smaller ones run by slightly technophobic older people) still won't allow you to install other Web browsers on their system to prevent security breaches, even if they are otherwise up to date.

It's painful. But any company that hasn't upgraded past XP by now is just being lazy. That system is positively archaic. I mean, Vista is out of support for crying out loud...

And as far as I know, IE is probably the most vulnerable browser out there.

The later ones are better, but you're right. What the It department is worried about is having more than one set of exploits to worry about, and the fact that Chrome and the Fox are a lot more easily manipulated by internal users, and therefore are a bigger risk factor.

That, combined with the web-based programs the companies use that rely on IE, makes it the obvious and only viable choice.

Hell, most IT staff hate IE. But it works, they need it, and it's kinda sorta more resistant to clever employees fucking with it. ;)

I think they have this policy at my institute. My supervisor who usually works on a laptop takes 5 minutes out of every meeting to curse her computer.
