This is messing with my groove.

While the rest of the UK suffer from cuts left right and centre MP's have been awarded a 10% pay rise!! that equates to over £4 million quid split 650 ways.

As a civil servant this irks me more as for the past decade i have been subject to a 1% rise a year, which if i was lucky equated to £250 quid which after tax meant an increase in take home pay of around £5 quid.

We are all in this together though, right??

Telling everyone else to tighten their belts, and cutting the state public service drastically, before accepting a massive pay hike from an"independent" tribunal was what a large part of what got the previous QLD govt kicked out after they had won the previous election with the biggest majority in history.

I'm discovering that long held fact that death and funerals bring out the worst in some family members. Had to talk my Dad through grant of probate last night (he's an executor, along with his brother) only to find out that said brother and his wife went through my gran's flat one night (I think she'd been dead all of three days at this point) leaving not a stone unturned, every drawer and cupboard had been gone through and bits and pieces removed. And all they've been talking about is "I think we should use this estate agent for the flat" and "Oh, I'll take the silver to so-and-so's and see what they'll give us for it."

It's so lovely to see that after the death of your mother, all you care about is poring over everything trying to find things of value. She's been dead a week today.

I wish I had wise words that would explain that attitude. That particular situation has high potential for causing life-long disdain between family members. You might try saying, very calmly but with some passion, something along the lines of, "Can we slow this down a little bit. Let's take a breath and not get rid of anything until we have all had a chance to think about grandma and her life a little more. There are a couple of things that have great sentimental value to me and I know that {knickknack} means a lot to you {point to somebody else}. Who knows what else is in a drawer or under a bed and I don't know how discovering an old something or other that I would never have dreamed she'd keep around will affect me. Can any of you not say the same?"

It probably won't work and will certainly make somebody made. But you will have tried and in the years to come, knowing that you tried might save a relationship with the uncle or somebody.

The inexplicable panic and lack of concentration I get when put under one on one exam-style pressures. Just today I had a piano exam, which I had practised fairly well for, and during it I felt like I had only ever first seen the pieces and scales the day before. It sucks and I am envious of those who can cope with this ordeal.

Big brushfire in a nearby pass. It's partly surrounding the freeway (which is shut down now). Cars exploded. Smoke coming my way but the fire should be far enough not to be a problem.
