Two weeks ago I ordered my copy of Night of knifes. Today while doing some reading on a WW2 book I stumbled on "Die Nacht der langen Messer" / Night of the long knifes.

As I don't if SE has told so far how he got to this title. What I heard about the main plot this far I think he borrowed a part of it form "Night of the long knifes" in Germany 1934. On June, 30th and July, 1st Hitler purged the ranks of long term supporters in the SA (Sturmabteilung). Here's the longer version http://en.wikipedia....the_Long_Knives

Well, ICE wrote the book, so he chose the title, I believe. But it does have some similarities.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

 Well ... well ... shame on me. It's written in such big letters that you cannot miss the name. And I missed it. - ICE of course.

Sometimes I wonder: Does it get worse when I reach my 30th brithday?

So I hear;)

Considering the events, there is a certain resemblance to the events of the Night of Long Knives, so it's a fair enough comparison:)
