Last week I read the fifth comment on Chapters 18 and 19 of the Tor reread, where Amanda Rutter was spreading the word about a competition she'd set up on her personal blog where people who emailed in could win copies of all ten novels of the Malazan Book of the Fallen, with the tenth signed by Steven Erikson. And I entered. I was going to buy The Crippled God in any case, but on the odd chance I was lucky I could either replace the tattered books I'd read to pieces and lent out to friends (including the two that got left by an open window during a storm by what used to be a friend but is now part of my back garden's ecosystem) or give the entire lot to my older brother, who's a fan but simply can't afford the entire series as and when it comes out. Or to other friends. In any case, I'd just wait and see.

Then, I bought myself TCG today, started it at 4pm or so, finished it about an hour ago, and after recovering from being overwhelmed I decided that I'd neglected the internet long enough, and I checked my emails.

I've won. I've got brand new copies of all ten Malazan books. (well, brand new copies of the first nine and a once-read copy of the last, cause that signed copy is MINE)

I am hereby declaring the 21st of March Second Christmas.

Wait, what is your post box addy again? I need to know so I can send you... send you your white... white elephant Christmas present.. yeah I need to send that off... just PM me that addy my friend.

My new PC is working again, and just in time, too.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

The status of my tCG order went from 'awaiting publication' to 'processing'. Processing is ususally followed by 'dispatched' pretty soon, so yay!

TCG. And in the front, "To Simeon, congratulations on your impending marriage. Yours, Steven Erikson."

I nearly cried when he wrote that...

Awesome. Did you tell him, or has he been reading our thread on damaging your hopes of sexual prowess?

I never mentioned it. He looked at me, said "You were here last time, right? And aren't you the one who just got engaged?" I nearly dropped to the floor a bit like this:

I Scream
You Scream
We all Scream
For I Scream.

Had an awesome night out with some great, and more importantly hot, girls and I'm waiting to check exam results which admittedly is where this could all come crashing down.

The reinstatement of my sweet, sweet rep. Also a mysterious and baffling name change in the middle of the night...:)

EDIT: I think my post count was higher than that, by the way. Not to worry, though, it doesn't matter.

The love I bear thee can afford no better term than this: thou art a villain.

Went on to Amazon this morning to find out where the hell my copy of TCG was. My lovely wife had pre-ordered it for me ages ago as a christmas present. The conversation went something like this...,

Me " There's no record of any pre -order or anything resembling an order..... WTF ! "
Mrs Masan " There should be, I definitely remember doing it. "
Me " Are you sure ? "
Mrs Masan " Yes. "
Me (after deconstructing the entire webpage/site) " Are you sure ? "
Mrs Masan " .....I think so. "
Me " That's not very reassuring."
Mrs Masan " I ordered you the 2 books you asked for ! "
Me " 2 books......, I asked for 3 (blood pressure rising) books, you said you were going to get 3 ! I had the other 2 before christmas, this was the only one I gave a shit about ! You did'nt get it did you ? "
Mrs Masan "....ermmmm.."
Me " WOMAN !?! "
Mrs Masan " No."
Me " YOU ABSOLUTE TURBO SPAZ ! (etc etc) "

Why is this in the happy thread I hear you ask ?

2 reasons really, for one I was'nt that bothered as I just took a leisurely drive to the nearest Waterstones and plucked a nice shiny copy of the TCG off the enormous pile in the foyer. Two, I milked my disappointment to the max and the missus is feeling bad about it, resulting in a rather epic fillet steak/ bottled lager based dinner this evening.

I should feel some sort of guilt/ shame, I don't.

Am I a bad person ?

So you used that major cock-up to guilt your wife into making you a nice dinner? Why didn't you just use it to get super-fantastic "I'm so sorry"-sex?!

Also: Had some nice cake. Made a perdy dress which I'm going to wear for a birthday party next weekend:)
