We are traveling back to Blighty properly for the first time since 2009-ish (although we were in Southampton briefly ahead of a cruise in 2014) late in the summer. Friends of ours from Canada who moved there last summer (one of them is Cdn military and gets shipped around every few years), so we will be in Cheltenham staying with them, but we are also planning to hit Portsmouth so I can see the HMS Victory (life goal) and the wife and I want the kids to see some of London, so we will do that on the way out on our last day.

I'm super excited! It's been too long since we've been back there.

Re: My dad's surgery

Thanks all for the support and well wishes everyone..

He came through it okay and it went well, with the only stipulation that he needed 6 bypasses which was more than expected. The surgeon went in and decided when she was in there how many she felt he needed. So now recovery is likely a longer window due to the places she would have had to get the vessels from (legs and arms ect.), but he's come through and that's the part to focus on.

I’ve heard it from many a people from many a places most a recently from YouTube creators “Man Tanner, BK, J-S, P****** your memory is crazy good.” So I’m kinda putting it to the test by recently getting my 1st non school library card to gain access to their language learning audio books. 1st up is Spanish and I can truly say that in the week since I’ve committed to this project, Hablo un poco de Espanol(I can speak-a-little bit-of-Spanish). On completion I ll probably try Japanese which is a bitch structure wise for English speakers to iron out. Ex: you absolutely can learn how to say: I ate an apple, but you would get some mighty crazy looks if you did. The appropriate way to say it is Apple ate which is the same thing you would say if you said You ate an apple..it’s just the way you say it that lets the people know which one you meant.

Uh bye I guess.

Get your meal at the Brazen Head, next to the Liffey. Solid pub fare.

scientists have demonstrated how ultrasound blasts can break down influenza A (H1N1) and SARS-CoV-2, which causes COVID-19.

[...] "It's kind of like fighting the virus with a shout," [...] "In this study, we proved that the energy of sound waves causes morphological changes in viral particles until they explode, a phenomenon comparable to what happens with popcorn."'

[...] The lab experiments were performed with ultrasound machines used in hospitals [...] the frequency of the sound wave matches the natural vibrational frequency of the viral envelope, leading to amplified vibrations that destroy it. Essentially, only the virus responds to the energy of the sound waves, not the host cells.

Scientists Destroy COVID And Flu Viruses in The Lab With Sound Waves : ScienceAlert

Seems like it might work against the Andes strain of hantavirus, which is also an enveloped virus. One caveat being that it's expected to work best against spherical viruses ("The phenomenon is entirely geometric [...] Spherical particles, such as many enveloped viruses, absorb ultrasound wave energy more effectively") and hantavirus is described as "mostly spherical or pleomorphic".

https://en.wikipedia...iki/Andes_virus

Not clear to me to what if any extent shape is strain-dependent and how far its pleomorphicity deviates from sphericality.

Ordinarily it would take a long time to get to human testing, but I wonder if hantavirus could accelerate the timeline, given the lack of effective treatments and its high mortality rate. (Hopefully the patients wouldn't explode...)
