Not sure if this should go in this or the other thread but I've signed myself up to do a 10k run in 3 weeks despite never having gone past a 5k yet! I have the half marathon in September so I need to step it up but flipping heck I don't feel ready!

I hope you've gone Android. IPad looks fancy and works well, but you gotta pay for every bloody app and nothing is compatible.

Yep. I bought the ipad mini (second version) back when it was the lightest thing bigger than 7" but smaller than a 'normal' 10" tablet. Loved the size and weight, was fine with ios, despised itunes, hated having to use cloud apps for everything.
Am perfectly happy to move to android and never look back. 10", weighs less than the ipad, syncs everything with my phone, threw a chip in and it now has 300GB to fill with books, graphic novels, apps, etc etc.

Just remember, Tiste: there's absolutely no shame in collapsing on your butt halfway through a 10k and bawling your eyes out and lifting both your arms up at a 45 degree angle in front of you and opening and closing your hands in a pick-me-up gesture and shouting "I want my mooommmmmmy". The main thing that everyone will remember is that you tried!
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

For a small fee i can arrange for a small pack of wolves to chase you to the end. Nothing quite like predatory pursuit to inspire endurance and perseverance.

A pride of lionesses will cost more, but make for a much cooler visual.

...if you're strapped for cash, toy Chihuahuahuas are also available.

I'd take the Chihuahuahuas. There's nothing as motivating as the propect of being shamed for having to be chased to the end by toy Chihuahuahuas. Tiste will be at the goal in no time.

Heck I'll be at that point by about 1K!

Abyss, this is a run starting at a stately home in the British countryside and wolves, lionesses or chihuahuas would not fit the aesthetic. How much for a pack of ravenous badgers?

Kids are back to school!!

That was a long week.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

All the badgers are on other jobs. Would you accept a busyness of mildly peckish ferrets?

What about some foxes? Or grey squirrels?
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

So, did something quite special today. Falconry on horseback!

Posted Image

They had to split the day in two as their eagle needed to go to an eye specialist this afternoon, so I'm back over there on Friday morning to do some more work with the falcons (actually stooped one to a lure from horseback!) and to fly the eagles with the owner. Usually these days are geared at people who have no falconry experience so in his words he "threw out the rulebook" with me and had me doing all sorts. I'm genuinely honoured the amount of trust he put in me to work with his birds. Posted Image

Huh, I've always pictured TRB as clad in leather from head to toe, and the falcon more the size of an eagle.

When I met TRB in real life she didn't even have a quiver full of arrows slung over her back or anything it was very disappointing.

I stopped regularly following boxing a long time ago and I like Anthony Joshua, but this was amazing:

https://www.youtube....h?v=DQ4P1ySqbLg

Announcer: 'Anthony Josha is the total package, I mean almost a cartoon character, this is how you would draw up the heavyweight champion if you were dreaming it up. [... Unheralded last-minute replacement] Andy Ruiz Jr is not the body beautiful.'

I love how Ruiz starts pumping his fists in the air like Rocky and jumping up and down, gut jiggling....

His belly's so big it looked like Joshua was legally punching him below the belt because his gut was hanging over it.

The smile of elation on Ruiz's face when he lands the first shot... then the beautiful hand-speed and controlled intensity he demonstrates in the follow-up.

His golden gloves and trim, 'Victorious' calligraphied across his back, 'Destroyer' on the front of his trunks, clouds and flowers around his nipples, two hands folded in prayer with a dove on his chest (Catholic-Aztec syncretism?...). Wonderfully positive attitude.

Eagles are on Friday (there'll be more pictures) and purple jodphurs are a weakness of mine i'm afraid. Purple leather jodphurs are definitely something to look into..... :p

The birds start playing with them and getting some funny ideas. Safety first!

Haha, they've got three working pointers and they will happily run around while you're working with the birds. You can tell how used to one another all the animals are as they never so much as blink at each other. Such a great set up and so much trust involved.
