Nice Mac. Hopefully you'll get lucky and find something thats close to pay, but youre happier. Good luck!

Have work lined up across the water. Far better money, home every two weeks for the first project, that's just 10 weeks, then we'll talk again for the bigger job he has coming up

I ain't a parent, but I know a few, and while there are many approaches to parenting the one universal bit of advice every single one of them has given is: never, EVER let your kid watch Caillou.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

This is indeed the universal advice I always hear as well.

The last 48 hours have been the most amazing, long, wonderful, terrifying time in my life. It all started with Mrs Kitsu getting induced like I mentioned in the groove thread. From that point on, it was about 27 hours until she had the baby. I'm split between thinking that my wife is amazing and insane because she ended up going unmedicated beyond the induction drugs. I know a couple of you on here work in a hospital setting and have mentioned frustration with the "madwives" but our experience with them was nothing but good. We're in a very liberal city though which has managed to draw a lot of good ones to it due to the warm receptions to them in our hospitals. Also because of the midwives, she was able to use a birthing-tub and have a water-birth. That tub was a god-send. It took her from wanting to ask for an epidural to being able to cope and push out the baby about an hour and a half later. Also, our little one had her caul intact up until the very last push, which is apparently very rare. I'm just crazy amped up right now, and can't believe amazing all of this feels.

Also, I got a few hours of rest today while the Mrs was feeding, and I'm writing this up while she and the little one are sleeping. I'm trying to stay up to help buy her a couple hours of uninterrupted sleep if I can. So far, so good.

Finally, one other thought... Do any of the long-timers here remember if there has been a baby thread started up at some point that we could res? I know Mez had her little one not too long ago, and I get the impression that QT's wife isn't too far off either. A ded-thread for babies could be a great resource to those of us going through this.

Oh yeah, the little one was 7lbs 2oz, 20 inches long, and the wife finally settled on a name I proposed months ago - Katherine.

Congrats! Enjoy yourself. Hope the Mrs is recovering ok. Don't forget to ask her how she is recovering at least once or twice after the first couple of days - everyone is only interested in the frickin baby and I'm left sitting here going "hellooooo, yeah he's cute but major life event, surgery, last 9months were fucking hell and now I no longer exist as an individual person, sympathy please!"

Might be a man thing but I've got advice coming out of my eyeballs, no more please :Rodeo:

Saw the family Doc. X-ray came in, no fracture of the face/nose.

parents still wondering "well, why is your nose crooked now?", but don't care. Back to soccer- have a game later tonight.

Oh, and pretty solid long weekend away from life. Copious amounts of alcohol consumed, but only really felt hungover yesterday. Had a day off reserved for today to recover (and do a bunch of errands/ doctor-related things), but feeling fairly refreshed and good to go.

Only 4 days to go til the world premiere of an Irish feature film I got to work on last summer (I get to say world premiere as it's apparently going to be shown overseas in some capacity in time). I was only a production assistant, but on a low budget film, that meant you could be doing anything, which was a great experience. I think i can claim transport, catering, props, set dressing, locations, dealing with extras, and occasional lighting assistant, as well as being an extra myself in several scenes. Would have loved a technical role, but realistically I was lucky enough to get to participate at all.

Have to take a day off work to go to the film festival, and I'm really hoping it all turns out well, as I've only seen the trailer for it myself. The few people that have seen the whole thing seem to really like it, so, fingers crossed. It's called The Young offenders, it's a comedy, and there's a trailer here if anyone's interested. Would be curious what people even make of the trailer? The Irish (Cork) accents and slang might be an issue for non-natives :Rodeo:

To prematurely celebrate my birthday I spent yesterday afternoon shopping for a new suit. I bought a dark blue linen-wool suit that is glorious! It's being fitted and I'll pick it up after work today as a gift for myself. I also bought some nice wine and a bottle of gin for tonight. Being thirty is not so bad, I have to say.

Thanks Mat :Rodeo: I got a bottle of Hendrick's, which is my favourite of the standard ones.

Ah Hendricks, wonderful stuff.
If you're ever bouncing through an airport with a decent sized duty free in it keep an eye out for Cahrûn gin. Scottish small batch, lovely with a slice of apple in it

Eta.
Flights from Dublin up to Finland are at about the £200 mark at the minute. Will pm you tomorrow when I know more about my time off in England

Double eta -
Flights from London to the frigid north under the ton return. Will be working in Southampton so this is an attractive prospect

Now that you're 30 your birthdays have to become staid responsible affairs with no excessive consumption.

My birthday was a lot of fun. Just a few friends, lots of wine and an excellent dinner I made. On saturday we'll have the real party, but this was a nice and comfortable affair :Rodeo:

Out of sheer boredom (and probably quite a lot of suppressed frustration at never having any time to draw) last week I drew a large picture of Darujhistan in black marker on a white board in the anaesthetic room during a trauma list. With Moons Spawn overhead. And dragons.

I'm happy because people have been taking pictures of it, asking who drew it, and I've since had two messages left from people who want me to do them a picture.

I don't know where I'll find the time to do that, but it could lead to more if I can finally get around to picking up a pen or brush.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.
