Last night I woke up following a terrifying nightmare. I was too scared to get out of bed when I woke up.

I was on the planet from the movie Aliens. It was before Ripley and the marines arrive and I was myself but happened to be there with the colonists as the aliens started to attack. I knew what was happening given I have seen all the movies so was just shitting myself in a mixture of terror and trying to persuade their leader what we needed to do.

Their leader was Steve Martin.

Needless to say Steve Martin is not equipped to lead a terraforming settlement being attacked by xenomorphs. I woke with my heart absolutely hammering. I've had an adrenalin come down all day.

Maybe lay off the 5 balloon glasses of brandy and the "Three Amigos" rewatches before bedtime?

Would you say, I have a plethora of brandy?

A what?

A plethora.

Oh yes, you have a plethora.

Jefe, what is a plethora?

Why, El Ben lento?

Well you told me I have a plethora, and i would just like to know, if you know what a plethora is?

I would not like to think....that a person would tell someone... he has a plethora...and find out that that person has no idea what it means to have a plethora.
I've always been crazy but its kept me from going insane.

Forgive me El Ben lento, I know that I - Jefesomdoku - do not have your superior intellect and education.
Could it be that once again, you are angry at something else and are looking to take it out on me?

Another promising new method for generating massive amounts of clean energy from the air:

Quote

Scientists just discovered an ‘astonishing’ way to create energy out of thin air: ‘The sky is quite literally the limit’

[...] The enzyme, called Huc, pulls hydrogen from the atmosphere and converts it into electricity.

[...] The scientific journal, Nature, published their findings. [...]

[...] “We’ve known for some time that bacteria can use the trace hydrogen in the air as a source of energy to help them grow and survive, including in Antarctic soils, volcanic craters, and the deep ocean,” [...] “But we didn’t know how they did this until now.”

Not only can Huc turn trace amounts of hydrogen into electric currents, but [...] purified Huc can be stored for long periods of time.

“It is astonishingly stable. It is possible to freeze the enzyme or heat it to 80 degrees Celsius [176 degrees Fahrenheit], and it retains its power to generate energy,” [...] “This reflects that this enzyme helps bacteria to survive in the most extreme environments.”

[...] the bacteria that produce the enzyme can be grown in large quantities, making it a very sustainable resource — like pulling an endless amount of rabbits out of a hat.

[...] The next step is producing Huc on a large scale[...] “the sky is quite literally the limit for using it to produce clean energy.”

Scientists just discovered an ‘astonishing’ way to create energy out of thin air: ‘The sky is quite literally the limit’

Though IDK what the ramifications of removing massive amounts of hydrogen from the atmosphere might be. (Or whether the nanopore 'Air-gen' method, if implemented on a massive scale, would significantly reduce the humidity of the air, or influence the climate....)

Today is the first day of the Isle of Man TT races fortnight. This time last year I was dreading it due to the insane shifts I was meant to be doing and I ended up in a zombified knackered state. This year I get to do my normal office hours and enjoy a couple of bank holidays with the family.

So much better!

Wife starts a full time WFH customer service job as of the 28th.

We have to get through June and July before it eases off - but when she gets her first payday, ease off it will, and almost immediately at that.

Wow, someone finally followed logic to it's natural conclusion and an entire school district is now hoist by their own petard. Can you taste the irony?

Utah district bans The Bible for thousands of students due to ‘vulgarity’
The Bible has been removed from library shelves for thousands of students as one district deems the Christian scripture too “violent” and “vulgar”.

I'm visiting the London office for a couple of days. Gave the last minute West End ticket app a glance, not particularly expecting anything... I've got a ticket to see Hamilton tonight! Posted Image

Hah, I saw Hadestown last week on Broadway. Spectacular show. Eva Noblezada is a treasure.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

Amazing! She has the most beautiful voice :) it's coming to the West End next year so I'm hoping to see it at some point.

Hamilton was incredible. I watched the Disney+ filmed version during lockdown and it really fails to capture the importance of the movement and dancing, and it was nice to have all the little narrative in-between bits in as intended too. Many tears, would see it again in a heartbeat.

Supreme Court rules — just barely — that racial gerrymandering still violates voting rights

[...] Chief Justice John Roberts, who often rules against voting rights, wrote the majority opinion.

[...] Roberts and Justice Brett Kavanaugh joined the court's three liberal-leaning justices in the decision, which held that the voting map used in the 2022 congressional elections in Alabama was illegal.

The ruling agreed with the findings of a lower federal court that "Alabama's extensive history of repugnant racial and voting-related discrimination is undeniable and well documented" and "Black Alabamians enjoy virtually zero success in statewide elections," noting that the state of Alabama hasn't challenged that conclusion in its arguments before the Supreme Court.

"The Court sees no reason to disturb the District Court's careful factual findings, which are subject to clear error review and have gone unchallenged by Alabama in any event,"

Mouth fell open....

Maybe Roberts and Kavanaugh are tired of seeming like pure right-wing hacks?

Probably want to save their hackery points for where it really matters to them---money and pseudo-paleo-Catholic supremacy....

When I first saw this I was hoping that he'd died... I'm a bit disappointed that he didn't (yet...).

Glad to see this though:

Boris Johnson's Comeback Hopes May Be Dimmer Than He Thinks

[...] As he has on so many other occasions, Mr. Johnson seemed to be channeling his political hero, [...] Churchill, [...] who was swept out of power in 1945 only to return [...] in triumph six years later.

Yet this time, political analysts expressed skepticism about a Churchillian restoration for Mr. Johnson. With little support beyond a rump of hard-core Brexiteers in Parliament, and a British public that has grown weary of the Boris soap opera, they said there was almost no plausible path back to power for him.

[...] Britain's parliamentary system makes any Trump-style resurgence far more difficult. [...] Sunak and [...] Conservative Party leadership have a say over whether Mr. Johnson can run for another seat in the House of Commons.
