Random question: who wears glasses and has had lasik? Have the glasses gone away for good?

I had a -8.5 prescription for my glasses and contacts. I got LASIK and it's the best thing I did (with family financial assistance) that wasn't school.

The surgery takes approximately twenty seconds per eye and it doesn't hurt much. They stood me up out of the chair and immediately I could see the letter chart across the room in perfect detail. I had 20/20 vision and that's stayed intact in the five years since.

The surgeon told me that I would need reading glasses later than most people due to the surgery, but that it would eventually happen. I had zero complications and the extent of the discomfort was a night of feeling itchy eyes and sleeping in sunglasses/putting in eye drops for a week.

I love that I do not have to wear contacts or glasses anymore. The time, the money, the effort, and the brainspace all went elsewhere to better things.

I strongly recommend it to people and can honestly say that my life is considerably better because I did this.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

I'm a +6 or so and because I'm so long-sighted (note that's not far-sighted) the surgery is a lot more complicated, involving going into the eye not just shaving the cornea, which of course freaks he shit out of me.
Being more complicated there's a much lower chance of outright success, and I'd probably have to wear glasses to read and drive anyway, so I figured what's the point of that?

I've worn them since I was nine months old, so I'm kinda used to them. Still hate them though. ;)

Probably should check out where the technology is up to now, but I doubt it's made sufficient strides since I last checked as to make it an attractive option.

Glad it's worked for some people anyway.

Just looked up the price of Lasik. Iiii think I'll just stick to lenses and glasses and let you Rockefeller people enjoy your luxury eyeballs.

Edit: A mod should make a Lasik thread to dump this talk into.

I think laser eye surgery is one of the biggest let downs of the century. Why would they call it that if they're not going to give you laser eyes?

Actually, they do.

It's just that the specific frequency of laser is invisible and nobody who's had it wants to admit they can reheat coffee just by looking at it for a minute.

If you want the whole visual spectrum laser eyes with infra-red, UV, HUD interface, and variable x-ray perv options, it costs a whole lot more. Costco sometimes has 2-4-1 sales tho'.

I don't think eye surgery performed out of the back of a van is great idea.

I paid 4K with my eyes and I will say it’s well worth it. I went to the nicer than average place .. cause eyes. I also think it’s well worth it if their is a crash of society glasses are going to be tough to find if that helps throw it over the top.

If you wear glasses does that give you +1 and thus constitute them as a Magic Item?

Well, they do make my eyes look bigger and as multifocals they have a small section in the middle of the bottom half that gives me 1.25 magnification ... does that count?

Had a 2 day UK IT outage. I assume some colleagues in the IT department have had a terrible couple of days but I am enjoying being back in the pre-email dark ages. Had a few phone calls, cancelled all my online meetings, can't open a single internet page or network drive and can't open Outlook. I have written a document I've been putting off for weeks and now that is finished I can't do anything. I can live with getting paid to do that! It will be a shit storm when I'm back online next week but that's no different from usual so I don't care.
