Holidays! 4.5 days of bliss and doing nothing!

and might possibly go away for New Year's still. all depends on how much progress I make with my arm due to the swimming I'm about to get back into with a vengeance.

I got moved up to level 2 at my Jiu-jitsu gym. It's not really a big deal, not a belt promotion or even a stripe on my belt, it just means that I am trusted to do full speed sparring without breaking my or my partners arm accidentally. Still, it's progress.

I am so glad I started, I just with I would have started the first time I thought of it, in 1998. Imagine the progress I would have already had by now!

You're being trusted with the goal of faux maiming another person who's trying to do the same to you. It's a big step and it'll be fun as heck.

Get a decent mouthguard and plenty of tape. Good luck and may the tiny injuries not be too many.

In a surprisingly similar vein, I am now trusted to roll with anyone (including the giant American football players/wrestlers coming in off the street) and acquit myself well. Guess I'm finally settling in at purple belt.

Small world, I am the giant American football player/wrestler in off the street! Purple belt is very impressive and seems a long way away, especially since I can only train twice a week. I don't have any illusions about rocketing through the belts though, I'm content to stay at white for a long time as long as I am learning.

I'm not quite as giant as I used to be though. I'm going to miss my goal of losing 100 pounds by the new year by a bit. I'm down about 90 though, and that's good enough for now.

That is amazing RLY. Well done. And so cool that you have found a way to exercise that you enjoy so much.

Thanks mezla! Still a lot of work to do though. I want to lose at least another 65 or 70 pounds, but don't have any particular timeframe. As long as it's coming off I'm not going to stress about how quickly.

Keep some sort of written journal if you can. Detail the moves taught in your last class. And practice what moves you can on a couch cushion at home on the off days.

Make sure you're getting the reps right more than achieving a large quantity. Practice doesn't make perfect, it makes permanent.

That's about it. The rest will take care of itself now that you're slowly and steadily achieving your goals. Way to go!

painful visit to the physio is proof that my arm can, in fact, be bent backwards to the point where it's straight.

All this means is that I need to work on it. Which is progress.

So I gave my SO a necklace with a large pendant for her birthday. I was extremely nervous as this was my first serious unassisted jewelry gift to her.

And she absolutely loved it! She can't stop talking about it. I am so happy.

Also we got an entire day totally to ourselves after a long time and we did not waste a single minute

Here's hoping manatees, the ebola vaccine, and American generosity are all immune to nuclear fallout.

Awesome. Yeah I got mine primarily to cut down wear and tear on my game systems for streaming but it turns out to have a lot of positives on top of that.

BK: It's like the daddy of all streaming devices (think what TiVo is to DVRs), so similar to Chromecast or the Fire Stick.

What is that?

Basically what looks like a long USB stick that plugs into an HDMI port in your TV and lets it play streaming channels like CBS, Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, SyFy, USA, HBO, Showtime, Starz, Reuters etc. I think there's even rent/buy a movie channels too.

If you already have a console running your streaming needs for you, then it's not special. But if you don't (like I don't have an Xbox One or PlayStation 4), it's really nice. It almost literally is "plug it in, use your little new remote, log in a few times on various channels" and you're done.

I've been wondering about how to get Netflix running on the big TV since Snotface moved out and took the Xbox.

I wasn't going to sit my laptop next to the TV and run an HDMI cable between them, because that's clunky as all hell so could I run this Roku thingy instead?
At the moment I only watch Netflix on my PC, which is wired to the modem, but the modem also does wireless.
