Crisis averted. Was no more than 30 min late this morning. That'd be acceptable "transit delay"

Also means I don't have to stay super-late @ work. Win-win.

Not sure if this thread or the messing thread was more appropiate but still... I'm trying to look at this positively...

So I had a bit of a shitty/difficult childhood and upbringing, because of this I've always had problems going back as long as I can remember or I presume it's because of this anyway. Bouts of depression, especially if things snowballed but I'm a typical bloke and hide it well, 90% of the people close to me don't know what I go through (my friends are my family) because I can also be super happy, a typical geordie wise cracking away, having shits and giggles and generally a good time... almost hyper at times...

But this year things snowballed hard. I never had support as a child so I learnt to deal with everything myself and kept everything to myself. If there is a problem I deal with it myself...but you know when you get knock after knock, you think you're through the worst and you get hit by another sledge hammer and then another and so on.... Well it has been one of those years so far.

I had a really bad snowball a few weeks back and finally decided to try do something about it. The day I made an appointment I cried myself to sleep that night I was feeling that low... A couple of days before the appointment I woke up actually singing and dancing, feeling on top of the world and like I could conquer the world... I started to feel stupid about making the appointment, that I was wasting their time, how can I be bad if I am feeling like this and debated on whether to go or not...

I stuck with it though and turned up, after a lot of talk about the depression with the doc, she started asking more questions... she spotted something I hadn't even thought about - I woke up singing and dancing because I was on a manic episode... turns out I am Bipolar.

I'm trying to get my head around it at the minute, probably why I've decided to write about it here. Sorry if it's ramble.

edit

spelling but probably missed something.

Knowing you have something going on and what it is helps. You will build coping routines and hopefully this doctor or the next one will help you get to better places.

You're alright and I'll listen/read what you say here.

Went for a swim for the first time since I came back from vacation yesterday. despite the weight I put on, afterwards I immediately felt far less bloated. That's the first step towards gettign back into a proper exercising routine again.

Also, got a haircut this morning. Feeling much, much lighter now.

Shaving used to be a most horrible chore for me. However, I've taken up wetshaving (i.e. using a safety razor and actual shaving soaps) for the past three weeks or so. Now, shaving has become a therapeutic exercise. It is so relaxing to lather up your face and run the razor over the skin, it should be used as a therapy.

Anyways, reddit may be full of idiots when you're on the main subs, but the smaller subreddits are full of golden advice.

Also, this photo I took of a waterfall now serving as my wallpaper is awesome, which has put me in a good mood since Thursday.

I've almost always used a safety razor and lather soaps, preferably this:

http://www.thebodysh...eam-tub-or-tube

and these:

http://www.gillette....ion-power-razor

http://www.gillette....er-razor-blades

Although I'm thinking of upgrading the handle to the:

http://www.gillette....r-with-flexball

I tried using an electric ("As close as a blade or your money back" ... Hah! Bullshit!) for a couple of years when I was younger but there's just no comparison. People tell me the new "Wet" electrics are better than they used to be, but I'd rather not have to spend over $100 to try something and then possibly bin it.

On topic though, I have 3 sorts of chocolate ice cream in the freezer. :p

Those aren't safety razors thought my man.

And is more difficult to use. However, it doesn't give you razor rash and the beard doesn't itch when it's growing back. Also far cheaper blades compared to Gillete.

Pretty much anything that has a guard is actually a 'safety' razor, as opposed to a cutthroat *shudder*.

That's a truly old school style. I think my Grandad used something like that.
Are those the sort you put an actual razor blade into with a guard over the top? As opposed to the conventional multiple microblades styles I use and linked to?

But hey, if it works for you - cool.

Ugh, that reminds me - work tomorrow, got to shave in the morning. Monday shaves are always good, Tuesday to Friday not so much. I wish I could shave when I wanted to because that would be every 3 days for that lovely soft smooth finish. Babies bums are rough by comparison. :p

EDIT: I think yours is actually called a 'double edge razor'. Huh, I've learned more about razors in the last 20 minutes than the previous 25 years of regular shaving. There you go.

Yeah the one I use is a double edged safety razor. Somewhat funnily, I distinctly remember my grandfather using this style too.

Shaving with the double edge takes a little bit longer and needs more care/experience. If you perfect it though, it's a closer shave than the multiple blade ones and is far far gentler on the skin. I could never shave everyday with the 5/6 blade razors because they made my face bleed. I can use these everyday if I want to.

I have kept using this razor mostly because using it is fun though. Nothing beats fun.

I use a razor like Emperor Magus describes. I also use my father's badger brush that he still had lying around from his younger days in Nepal before he came here.

It's much better for me than the disposable razors. I was never tempted by the straight razors though. Those need to be so sharp and welded by another person - ie a barber.

Mine is a Merkur long handled razor and I like the weight and length of it very much. Gave my older brother one too.

I'm mostly bald and refuse to pay someone simply to run a clipper through the little hair I've got, so all my haircuts are self-inflicted. :p

I hate shaving, and am lucky enough that it's not required for work more than 2 or 3 times a week. I just use crappy disposable razors. Three or four times a year I treat myself to an oldschool hot shave at the barbershop. Damn near better than sex. :p

Shaving sucks and they should ban it. If I wanted the experience of seeing your bald face I'd dive eyeball-first into Hell.

Disagree. A face or head straight razor shave by a professional is a glorious thing.

I can usually get away with shaving twice a week (Monday and Thursday) for work, with quick touchups on sideburns and moustache every morning, purely because I don't like having hair there.

Unless I have a hearing during the week- then I shave properly as well. Or if i have to go out- then I might also shave.

I've been using Gilette Mach 3 ever since I started shaving when I was..... 19 maybe?

On topic: 2 wins for my soccer teams this week. Today had an early game, so may have a productive evening AND go to bed at a decent hour.

Absolutely the same here. I started shaving at 19, use Gillette Mach 3, and I shave twice a week, unless I have a presentation.

My father used to have a safety Razor like the one EM was talking about. Problem is its pretty tough to get good blades here

I just use amazon. There is always a guy shipping 100 for $10 from somewhere in Asia. Far far cheaper than Gillettes however you look at it.

You know I genuinely have not considered using the online option. Guess I am just so used to buying this stuff at the local shop, it never crossed my mind.
