The last 48 hours have been the most amazing, long, wonderful, terrifying time in my life. It all started with Mrs Kitsu getting induced like I mentioned in the groove thread. From that point on, it was about 27 hours until she had the baby. I'm split between thinking that my wife is amazing and insane because she ended up going unmedicated beyond the induction drugs. I know a couple of you on here work in a hospital setting and have mentioned frustration with the "madwives" but our experience with them was nothing but good. We're in a very liberal city though which has managed to draw a lot of good ones to it due to the warm receptions to them in our hospitals. Also because of the midwives, she was able to use a birthing-tub and have a water-birth. That tub was a god-send. It took her from wanting to ask for an epidural to being able to cope and push out the baby about an hour and a half later. Also, our little one had her caul intact up until the very last push, which is apparently very rare. I'm just crazy amped up right now, and can't believe amazing all of this feels.


Also, I got a few hours of rest today while the Mrs was feeding, and I'm writing this up while she and the little one are sleeping. I'm trying to stay up to help buy her a couple hours of uninterrupted sleep if I can. So far, so good.


Finally, one other thought... Do any of the long-timers here remember if there has been a baby thread started up at some point that we could res? I know Mez had her little one not too long ago, and I get the impression that QT's wife isn't too far off either. A ded-thread for babies could be a great resource to those of us going through this.


Oh yeah, the little one was 7lbs 2oz, 20 inches long, and the wife finally settled on a name I proposed months ago - Katherine.

Making me happy? 25 minutes to go then I am off for the next 13 days.

Fun time off ahead, sons birthday party tomorrow (god those things are expensive) then his birthday proper on Monday (son is going to be 5) so I am thoroughly looking forward to a well earned rest and family time.

To top off the good mood I have an interview for another job the week after I return so fingers crossed.

Congrats! Enjoy yourself. Hope the Mrs is recovering ok. Don't forget to ask her how she is recovering at least once or twice after the first couple of days - everyone is only interested in the frickin baby and I'm left sitting here going "hellooooo, yeah he's cute but major life event, surgery, last 9months were fucking hell and now I no longer exist as an individual person, sympathy please!"

Saw the family Doc. X-ray came in, no fracture of the face/nose.

parents still wondering "well, why is your nose crooked now?", but don't care. Back to soccer- have a game later tonight.

Oh, and pretty solid long weekend away from life. Copious amounts of alcohol consumed, but only really felt hungover yesterday. Had a day off reserved for today to recover (and do a bunch of errands/ doctor-related things), but feeling fairly refreshed and good to go.

Only 4 days to go til the world premiere of an Irish feature film I got to work on last summer (I get to say world premiere as it's apparently going to be shown overseas in some capacity in time). I was only a production assistant, but on a low budget film, that meant you could be doing anything, which was a great experience. I think i can claim transport, catering, props, set dressing, locations, dealing with extras, and occasional lighting assistant, as well as being an extra myself in several scenes. Would have loved a technical role, but realistically I was lucky enough to get to participate at all.

Have to take a day off work to go to the film festival, and I'm really hoping it all turns out well, as I've only seen the trailer for it myself. The few people that have seen the whole thing seem to really like it, so, fingers crossed. It's called The Young offenders, it's a comedy, and there's a trailer here if anyone's interested. Would be curious what people even make of the trailer? The Irish (Cork) accents and slang might be an issue for non-natives
