Saw John Williams with the LA Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl tonight. About 50% were his works, the other a variety of classic film music. Really great event (he does it annually), and there were kids (and adults) with lightsabers everywhere. When the Star Wars theme started they all went up immediately. The only real downside was that Seth McFarlane was the special guest and came out to sing four songs. That was like 20 minutes of wasted time right in the middle of it. His voice is to singing what cough syrup is to cherry flavor.

My in-laws have bought a house in Oregon, just a couple of hours outside of Portland. Meaning we'll be spending our holidays in Oregon rather than Alaska from now on.

Met Matt Smith, got his autograph, had a proper photo taken with him, and he signed my wife's iphone case on a whim that made her over the moon. Then we got to see a panel with him and Arthur Darvill for an hour. It was a bloody GREAT weekend!

Enjoying a bit of a purple patch at the mo. I took a punt with a semi-career change back in Jan which was supposed to tip the work / life balance back in favour of life. I was a bit worried since it had been 10 or 12 years since it tipped the wrong way and I was afraid that I might discover I didn't like my life and/or wouldn't find things to do with my new found time - I guess a similar scenario to when you hear about people freaking out about retirement but on a smaller scale. Well what a stupid thing to worry about!! I have rediscovered 2 old hobbies, I am able to read again in the evening instead falling asleep after 2 pages because I'm so tired and I haven't been sick in months. It's frickin awesome

I have been doing a sketch of the Middle Earth map to put up when we move into our house. I did Thror's Map for a friend and enjoyed it so much I went straight into this. I'm really surprised and happy with how it's going so far!

I have learned a new (anti)social skill. I'm usually painfully polite when trapped by boring people but an extremely boring lady was talking to me on a training course yesterday. She didn't take any of the usual conversational cues that she was boring me (trying to change the subject followed by forced smiles followed by looking around for escape). I just walked off It was very liberating. I shall use it again.
