In T-minus 3 1/2 days I'll be on a plane winging my way to "the continent" for a Mediterranean honeymoon. I can't properly explain the excitement. This is the longest vacation I've ever taken from work in the history of me working (two weeks at once). Very happy!

Nice, where are you going exactly? We had our honeymoon there on a Greek island in a 5 star hotel, it was awesome. Hope you have a great time.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

We are doing a cruise through the Mediterranean. We begin in Barcelona and move through about 10 places. Thanks, we are both really looking forward to it!

Started learning some tommy emmanuel.
Turns out some of it is quite learn-able.
Obviously some it is obscenely difficult, but I'm getting to grips with it.
Big pat on the back.

I read Skin Game in four hours straight, and it's half 4 in the morning. I also can't count or see colours anymore

Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Went to see my 5 year old nephew today, first time since he got his cochlear implant switched on yesterday.
He's doing really well, and seems to be in top form.
He's still got a few weeks of tweaking to go, but the team are really pleased with his progress.
I just can't believe how much of the whole thing he's just taken in his stride.
Kids can be so resiliant.

There's a few people on Twitter who are retweeting older tweets from conservative-types calling for doing anything to get Bergdahl back, followed by retweets of their more recent 180-degree turns in calling Obama a traitor etc. for getting him back. It's a fascinating, if not very surprising, juxtaposition.

Obviously there's lots of groove-messing type stuff on the subject (the image below among them, hidden cuz it's brutal in its stupidity and cruelty), but I like to focus on the positive. Like the glee one gets from watching these idiots show their true colors and implode on every issue under the sun.

Unfortunately, it's the Republican party line, and not solely just the usual bottom feeders of the Internet commentariat (not that I'm discounting extensive overlap between those two groups). But like I said, I like to look on the positive side. Washington D.C. is a coastal city, so soon enough it'll be under water.

It's pretty clear from the accounts and the more research-intensive articles I've read that the younger Bergdahl was not in a good situation mentally or socially when he left the base and basically purposely handed himself over to the Taliban/joined up with them.
That being said, I don't think he wanted to spend the best part of five years with them and if he wanted to come home and was being held against his will, the United States does have an obligation as a country and as his former military employer to get him back - even if it means exchanging a handful of prisoners who were/are mid-level terror squad organizers to Bergdahl's captors.
Calling for Bergdahl's execution is beyond stupid. However, he did desert his post. I don't think that should be excessively punished here, as it's pretty clear it was related to his mental health - and is something should be addressed with mental health counseling and a dishonorable discharge.
The structures and practices in place that led to Bergdahl deserting successfully are more deserving of condemnation than he is. The Republican wing-nuts or even the main body (and many of the Democrats and other politicians also) have zero interest in addressing these issues or making sure that the people who put those abysmal chains of events and policies into place don't get to do that again. They cannot turn the withering/corrosive scorn upon themselves at all.

If it's anything like that the soldier who deserted and was captured by North Korea for decades before being jailed 30 days on desertion charges (which completely coincidentally is the same amount of time as it took to process his return) they'll probably count his imprisonment as punishment enough. Todd Kincannon is trolling scum, though.
Incidentally the figure of six soldiers killed looking for Bergdahl is denied by the Pentagon as extremely unlikely and seems to be taken from the number of casualties that area had during the entire month he deserted in. Also the people the US released were all due out in about 7 months anyway, and Cruz is so awful that if the power cut out during a Senate meeting, the only question would be how many stab wounds his corpse would have when the lights turned back on, and he is never getting into real power.

It makes me happy that you thought it was a parody. That means you, a police officer (I think), still believe in the essentially good nature of most people. That's heartening.
Thanks Tiste.

Tomorrow is going to consist of a road trip through majestic scenery, tramping in the woods and hanging out by and taking a dip in a beautiful lake. All on what is supposed to be a glorious sunny day and I'm getting paid overtime to do so.
