My daughter won a kindle today for reading the most minutes over the summer. This is the second time she's won. She's in elementary school (kindergarten through 6th grade). She won the first time during the summer before first grade and again the summer before 3rd grade (she came in 2nd last year).

This probably doesn't sound particularly impressive unless you consider that she read more than any other student in the entire school, not just the 3rd grade.

I am very proud of her

I won having to walk into a class of ten year olds to grab the books they were reading since I'd read the rest. I was seven. The horror.

I was so stunned I forgot to mention this yesterday.

new FIFA rankings came in, and Ukraine took 20th spot. Which was enough to edge out France by 1(!) point to become the 4th seeded team for the World Cup qualifiers UEFA playoffs draw.

This means our chances to make it to the finals have gone up exponentially--we can potentially draw 2 very beatable teams (Iceland + Romania), or Sweden where we got about 40-60 chances, which still isn't bad (considering how many goals Swedes have been letting in lately) Only almost certainly bad pairing would be France.

so, yeah, even a day later, I'm still pretty damn stoked about that.

I'm staying at the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego. This place is amazing. It was built I think in the 1880's. So much history. Look it up, neat place.

I think this is where Xanth from days of forum past used to work. Too bad he's not still around ever.

been frantically searching my youtube history for an ambient group I remember was pretty awesome, couldn't find it... some random thought put the name in my head, and here it is! such an awesome feeling.
