What the heck is it.
I'm a third of the way through Garden's of the moon and have almost no idea what it is.
Wikipedia has no idea either which was a little alarming.
The best idea i can get is that it's some floating city thing that Anomander Rake flies about the place... I MUST know what it is. There's enough stuff just thrown at you without explanation as it is...

It's pretty much a floating mountain with a city inside. At least, that's all I can say without spoiling later books, although I can say Memories of Ice has more information about it.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Uh-huh. Just picture an upside down mountain, with a an opening/balcony that Rake spills forth his mojo from.
General advice for the series, read, read, read, through the series. You will have more questions than there are answers. Each book will answer countless questions you had from the previous one. Re-read once, and a lot of the series comes into focus, besides those things that SE is purposely keeping in the dark for later integration and subsequent "oooohs and ahhhhhs."
Hope you enjoy the last 2/3rds, they are what hook people!
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Oh a flying mountain thingy! The second pic looks like it is firing lasers though, not like Rake's magic. Surely KG would be darker? On the other hand, maybe it is magic shooting up from the ground to Moon's Spawn.
I play Neverland Online, a free browser MMORPG. :)

GotM is hard to get your head around the first time you read it. The back half of the book sews things up a bit but you'll still be pretty confused until you read it again. Moon's Spawn is basically a flying lump of rock with a castle in/on it.
I want to die the way my dad died, peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming in terror like his passengers.
