As a spin off from the Your Greatest Movie Of All Time thread.

I couldn't think of a single greatest so (as I enjoy making lists a little too much :)) I thought a chance to post your favourite movies in each genre might be in order. I'm always looking for suggestions to add to my dvd rental list!

Add more genres or whatever. I admit to being in a quandry over adding an SFF option but the good ones are all "action movies" imo and some of the ones I've listed are open to interpretation. So, whatever, just give me lists and show off your superior list making forum fu.

For me (yes I have alphabetised by genre :p):
Action - Aliens
Animated -
Chick flick - When Harry Met Sally
Childrens - Ghostbusters or Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure
Comedy - Some Like It Hot
Crime - LA Confidential
Foreign language (non-English) - Pan's Labyrinth or Cinema Paradiso
Guilty pleasure (I don't mean porn!) - Kindergarten Cop or Kickboxer :)
Indy -
Superhero/comic book - Batman Begins (yes I have seen TDK)
Western -
War -

I think it would be a good idea to add a scifi/fantasy category, even though those movies can fit into some of the categories you already have. This is a fantasy forum, after all.

You have nothing to feel guilty about. Gene Wilder's Willy Wonka is one of the most fabulous cinematic characters ever.

I think Gladiator falls into the category 'Sword and Sandal Epic' not fantasy.

Also, Mezla it doesn't go without saying because Aliens SE is a rare example of where the extra footage adds to the film. LotR is not for example, it's just a load of extra clag. So nurrrh, you ludite.

That's what I meant! So boo sucks back at you :) Although it does need a flashback so that we can all see just how good that Octurian Poontang really is and I'm always left wondering if the surname "Spunkmeyer" is common somewhere in the world. I wouldn't like that to be my surname.....

Good call on Tremors, but describing Gladiator as Fantasy, well it seems a little shy of fairies, elves, giant eagles, and the usual extras, great movie though!

BTW I forgot a couple of classics: Buffalo soldiers and full metal jacket for the war type movies.

If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants.
