Edit: also, you could tell they had Ray Park mocap for the two sections of the fight...his style as Maul is unmistakable.

Right again! My lord that was beautifully done. They're doing a really nice job weaving this into Revenge of the Sith and I was enjoying actually seeing scenes from RotS in my head as this ep played.

And then I saw Hayden's Anakin in my mind and it struck me that this Ahsoka Tano could never have been Hayden's version's padawan. It was like my mind slammed into a wall at the thought. She is 10 times the person and character than Hayden's version of Anakin.

Fantastic episode. You gotta wonder what else they would've done if they'd gotten the 2 (?) more seasons they wanted originally.

Good God why have they given Ahsoka Jar Jar's lower legs?! His weird feet and flared trousers were solely to make the cgi easier - even though as a water creature he probably should have had flippers or webbing or something. And now Ahsoka? Can't figure out that choice!

Anakin looks a bit odd too tbh. Clone trooper story with Echo was good - not so into the Ahsoka one yet but its early on.

I've enjoyed every bit of this season so far. I've been watching one every evening, and when I put it on my boy comes creeping downstairs and we watch it together.

Just watched the Maul fight episode. Goddam it, that bit when she last sees Anakin...

Ahsoka riding in on the outside of a gunship was also pure awesome.

Can't wait for tonight - then there will be tears come Monday.

This seems to have been planned and executed as a full length movie and split into 4 parts...and I can't wait to re-watch it that way after Monday.

Also, did you hear that TROS drops on Disney+ on Monday as well?

I also expect some sort of announcement, either REBELS sequel series or possibly MANDO news with official confirmation of Rosario as Ahsoka. Either way May the 4th seems to be shaping up to be amazing!

That was... amazing! It ties perfectly with RotS... even having the same communication in it, right before Anakin goes to see the Chancellor.

So many moments it could have been prevented - but so well planned and quite literally executed.

Just followed it with the middle part of RotS; it works really well.

one of the three droids helping her was a unit like Chopper, just a slightly different dome (which could be replaced between them and rebels)...but the attachments and voice sounds were the same. It might not be him, but it very well could be and would tie in nicely to REBELS...droid gets a cranky personality after surviving that whole ordeal.

And just double checked. She calls him “Cheep” and choppers call numbers are C1-10P...I think he might be early chop.

So Anakin's final step on his turn was so momentous that Ahsoka and Maul literally felt and heard it, While In Hyperspace. Damn.


Ahsoka fighting off all the clone blasters on top of that round console. Holy sh#t!


Did you catch the nod to Chirrut from Rogue One? "I am one with the Force and the Force is with me."


That WAS Chopper, except for the top of the dome, as QT said. The top "mini satellite dish" and the voice was right. I could buy it and I like the thought. I'll have to go back through Rebels to try to figure out how much later Hera and Chopper meet. She talks about that in a little detail at one point.

Hera and Chop met when a clone ship he was on crash landed on her planet during the battle of Ryloth. He was remade from bits of other droids. I'm not sure the one in CWs was intended to be Chopper, as that happened way before order 66. It was voiced by Filoni though.

That bit with Ahsoka defending was made all the more awesome by the use of the RotS soundtrack - and one of the best ones at that.

And goddamn you, Mace. In his mission to be the Republic personified, he alienated Ahsoka and pushed Anakin right into making the wrong decision at the critical point.

the timing lines up for that droid to have been Chopper. He should be with Hera already, at the time of Order 66, which is basically the ending of the Clone Wars. Is the Battle of Ryloth what is portrayed earlier in the CW series where we first meet Hera's father Cham Syndulla?

Just watched the end of RotS with my boy - never had such an emotional reaction to it. I think we were both blubbing during Obi Wans speech while Anakin burned.

Clone Wars has given that movie such an added weight.

Well that was a HELLA fantastic finale! Maul is yet again the standout...but that last scene....poetic. So poetic.

And Kevin Kiner inarguably made a better score in the last season of this show than John Williams did in the entirety of the Sequels...yeah, I said it. The nuance in Kiner's work is incredible and yet so very Star Wars.

Ahem...Disney folks in charge of making the big budget movies? Please get the F out of the way so that Dave Filoni and whoever else he would like to bring can take over. When they feel like it 'cause they're making amazingly great SW over here in "animated" right now. I need confirmation of the Rebels sequel!

This level of visual product deserves to be called something more than animation, by the way. They really have combined and perfected the styles of TCW and Rebels.

Those scenes of Ahsoka and Rex fighting in the hallways were brilliantly done and I thought really illustrated, A: that these 2 have fought together a LONG time and B: that they have defined patterns to their movements to protect and avoid striking each other. I was REALLY impressed by that whole scene.

Ahsoka cuts the floor open by force controlling 2 lightsabers in a wider arc than her arms could reach! Holy Shit!

Then she holds a shuttle! This one, to me, was of a more believable nature than the other time we've seen it. And she had to release it though I don't know that she believed she could've held it. I love how Ahsoka's power progression has played out over this series. For this season, we had the benefit of knowing what a badass she is in Rebels, so I had no issues with the power she had here. Because they also showed that she was mortal. She showed exhaustion multiple times and was hit several times as well.

Maul was quite the badass himself! I commented to my wife and daughter, while watching him make his way through the ship, that he refuses to use a blaster despite the fact he has no lightsaber. Total arrogance. But successful.

QT: How did you take Morai circling Vader and Ahsoka's lightsaber? I loved the reference to the Mortis Arc but I actually took it as a giveaway that she was alive and because of that, I almost thought it was too much. But I'm seeing someone on Youtube saying that it sells her death to Vader, like Morai is grieving there. Funny that it struck me differently.

I saw an interview with Filoni and he said they got Ray Park (the guy who played Maul in TPM) to do mocap for Maul's fights so that it feels as authentic as possible.

Hard agree on all fronts. I'm so glad Filoni seems to be so front and centre on MANDO, and with the announcement of Taika doing a full movie, I expect Filoni to be involved there too since they are good friends now.

Yes. This. I noted how they translated her exhaustion in the escape from the ship....you could palpably FEEL how tired she was but she kept pushing. That's a feat to manage in animation without any major outward cues. I also love the drop to the Y-wing at the end and how it mirrored her drop scene onto Mandalore in the beginning of the first of the four eps.

This is why my fave villain in the whole saga is and always WILL be Maul. Darth Maul, Maul, Old Man Maul, ect. He's the only one (barring the obvious Anakin/Vader) with a tonne of nuance to him. His reasoning post-TPM is all revenge. And it's glorious. He's chaos incarnate. I love that they expounded on that to Ahsoka. "You WANTED this chaos"...like "You knew what you were getting when you unleashed me" SO good. Witwer needs an award.

Interestingly the way I read it was who would have buried the 332nd if not Ahsoka? Those helmets didn't pike themselves...so if I were Vader and I were smart, I'd assume that Ahsoka was alive...and the him finding the saber hilt was a slap, a rebuke. His apprentice left behind the things of her training with finality (Ahsoka-circa Rebels does not consider herself a Jedi)...does that PLEASE a Sith Lord, or piss off who used to be a Jedi? Perhaps it pleases him to know Ahsoka left it behind? At any rate, Morai circling felt like proving to him she's alive...which might be looked at as over-egging the pudding...but as a visual cue to us that it also serves, I can see why Filoni put it in...especially since the same thing happens after their fight on Malachor during Rebels. I liked it.

As to the final scene

there is so much we don't know about how much is left of Anakin's "consciousness" this early on in his Vader-ness. When he awakens in the suit in RotS, he remembers Padme and the final scene here can't be too far removed from then, I guess? We see in Rebels later that Vader remembers Ahsoka as "the Apprentice" but there's just enough Anakin left after she "removes" part of his helmet to say her name. But that disappears in an instant, despite the fact that she states she won't leave him again. One of the biggest heartbreakers of these final eps is that Ahsoka WANTS to speak to Anakin once more and thinks/hopes she will still get the chance, so she withholds info (helped along by Windu and his "citizen" crack!) that may have made a difference, preferring to see him, speak to him herself. And that never comes to be.


I saw some of an ET interview with Filoni and it seems like he was treading very carefully with the final scene, intending to leave a lot to interpretation and not alter things that have been revealed a certain way in the movies. I applaud him for that but also wish for a bit more insight into what Vader is thinking there at the same time.

I thought the Vader walking away scene in the trooper's face shield also looked an awful lot like Ahsoka leaving the Sith temple in Rebels...
