Who was monkrat ?

He was said to be an ex-BB but there was a few times in the book that it was getting really late and maybe I could have missed this then, or i just did not get that bit at all.

we dont know his name. but he was a bb who's squad got wiped out in mott wood i think it was. or else it was blackdog. he just deserted. and then we meet him in TtH and hes a god of rats or a monk of the god of rats not to sure

Yeah. Just a mage with the ability (sort of like Bottle's) to communicate with/see through the eyes of rats.

until Spindle turned up i thought it was him. We hear of Spindle going on a pilgramage to the shrine so i thought he was over ran by Kelyk which makes no sense on a reread as monrat refuses Kelyk.

I thought he was Nedurian for a while, but decided against it in the end. He's just a BB deserter we've never met before.

I think he was just as he said, a squad mage in the BBs who deserted at Mott Wood. I did wonder if he had some connection to Bottle. Similar powers, both from Malaz Island. An uncle maybe, or even his father?

As above. Most of the comments from Monkrat or his rat's pov were just hyperbole.

It will be interesting to see whether he sticks with Spindle now. The BBs in Darujhistan are down a mage, after all.

Nedurian was atleast a high mage and Monk rats level of power didnt match

I thought Monkrat's scenes were some of the better ones, simply because they weren't so full of philosophical ramblings and introspections - they were much more clear-cut. Also, because Spindle demonstrated that even the weirder, weaker members of the post-Pale Bridgeburners were pretty cool and badass.

Of course, the Darujhistan Assassin's Guild found that out too ... would have been even nastier for them if Spindle had been around to help out.

Power levels are here and there, we're not in a position to say which is where. The main reason I decided against is that Monkrat's a former BB, but Nedurian never was. He was 2nd Army mage cadre.

Yeh the whole different army is a clue

. But youd think that if even a low level mage like Monk rat refused to give up his power as a mage to kelyk that Neddurian wouldnt. in fact he could have probably snuffed out the entire camp
