The way I see it, Rake was just defending against Dassem's attacks, where Dassem was trying to provoke him into striking back. Defending is a lot easier than attacking.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Ok, so what I"m curious about is how SE is going to tie the plot of Toll the Hounds into the last two books. I'm assuming of course that this book's plot is meant to be part of the great tapestry of his ten book saga (seems logical).
So what I figurer so far is that obviously some of the denizens of Dragnipur will play part in the next couple of books as they will 'spill out' in various places.
I also think there is a good chance that Cutter/Spite may be swept into the narrative as well instead of simply heading back to 7 cities.
Possibly Traveller/Dassem as well since we have no idea where he is headed and I also think Kallor will be mixed up in the events. Envy is also a wild card. As well as Tulas Shorn and the other undead dragon who may or may not have been Tulas Shorn.
Mother Dark may also make some appearances since she is God and I'm assuming she can get around quickly.
Gruntle, Mappo and crew obviously seem to be headed towards the next continent.
Shadowthrone and Cotillion might reappear (can't imagine the story without them) butttt as of yet they haven't appeared on Lether soooo they may also only make cameo appearances in the warren of shadow.
However, it seems that the bridgeburners, the Noms, Karsa, Nimander, Baruk, Iskaral Pust and his wife, and Kruppe seem destined to remain in Darujhistan for the remainder of the series.
Any theories or objections?

Shadowthrone was there in Lether during RG when he talks to Hood and Menandore(cant spell). They all were making a deal and then Hood calls both of them "worse than advocates" and then leaves.

My version is that Rake needed to set up the perfect hit that would turn Dragnipur against him. For that he had to ensure Dassem committed completely to an attack, and to do THAT he had to fight, not just defend.
Interstingly, SE specifically points out that Rake's opening stance is mirrored by the 'block' he makes that results in Dassem throwing Dragnipur back into his face. Wasn't quite sure what to make of that.
- Abyss, clearly needs CSI: Darujhistan...

I speak from experience here, but letting a blow through your block is really, really easy, as is being hit with your sword if you don't put enough force into the block (like for example if the guy you're sparring with doesn't understand the words 'pull your damn strikes already'). But I'd agree with Rake getting Dassem aggravated enough to go for proper killing blows - if only because he had Hood - waiting for the angle he wanted, and simply relaxing.

I think most of DJ's residents are staying put...but SE has said that ICE will be taking up Karsa's storyline.
I don't really know about the Andii. Who knows what MD is up to now? There only needs to be about 10-12 Andii to make a fucking force. They have their warren back now....curious.
ST and Cotillion will be INVOLVED. I've always had this notion that since they were the first scene we really saw in MBotF...they'll be the last...but that's probably wrong

Kallor? Oh yeah
Cutter seems to be going back to Apsalar....and Malaz City where we last saw her.
I can see the BB's reuniting one more time.
As for the denizens of Dragnipur...no fucking clue.

But as far as being involved in the rest of the story....uhhhhhh...ABSOLUTELY.

The andii possessing their warren for real now---SCARY. they'll surely do something at some point. maybe an ICE book?
ST and Cot have their hands in absolutely everything. i like the parallel between first scene and likely last scene. good stuff. i for one would enjoy that.
as for the denizens of Dragnipur, they must be back to some degree as Envy commented on Draconus being "back" but where they are/what they'll do is a mystery. surely we'll see some of them again, especially the original Apsalar and Draconus.

His soul was torn apart and went into KG. I'll say again, I personally believe that he's chilling in Andii heaven with Endest and will stay there for the rest of the series.

Really, if we want to be specific, only Karsa was told not to leave Darujhistan. That doesn't mean the CG plot can't find it's way back to Darujhistan and Karsa. For that matter, it's not like Karsa routinely does what he's told, so anyone is fair game for the last two MBFs.

What did SE actually say about ICE writing the Darujhistan/Tyrant plot? Some are saying that's all he said, and some are saying that SE specifically said ICE would pick up Karsa's storyline. Which is it?

One thought that intrigues me about the freed denizens of Dragnipur is that Hood is also among them. Does one just resign from being the Lord of Death? He seems to think so.
Oh, another thought pops up. Shouldn't the captured souls in Dragnipur - and they were only there in spirit so to say as their bodies got chopped to pieces before ending up in the dreary place in the first place - end up wherever the dead go now after Hood retired?
Just throwing it out there, dunno if this makes much sense, did not get much sleep lately...

Steve said that the Tyrant storyline will be resolved in one of ICE's books.

I agree. He's with his mother now....in Kurald Galain. I don't think we'll see him again. Too much was made of his death.

Yeah, I won't be convinced of anyone's final death and disappearance until the series is actually over.
