Envy and Spite

Curious thing in the aftermath of the TtH finale...
In MoI, Envy is clearly working for Krul, gathering his 'agents' and moving against the Pannion Domin, albeit she seemed to have her own reasons too, including finding Rake to 'warn' him.
In TB, Spite, with a ship manned by Andii ghosts, is waiting to trasport Mappo. It's certainly suggested ST/Cot wanted Mappo to be moved, and Pust & menagerie join them, which seems to reinforce the alliance further.
It seemed that Envy and Spite were both on the side of the good-ish. Yet in Darujhistan, while Spite takes her time getting there and Envy seems to want to avoid the confrontation, they ultimately go full tilt at each other.
And when confronted with the five HoS, they hit hard.
I'm thinking the 'their own reasons' factor is why they worked for Krul/ST/anyone.
The narrative notes that Draconus very deliberately raised the sisters to ensure they would never work together for long. Interesting that they found themselves on the same side - neither one seems to be the type to ally with the CG.
But it's interesting that of their own accord, either seems inclined to 'do the right thing', at least until they are confronted with each other, because at that point property damage seems certain.
- Abyss, ... notes they are the daughters of an extremely cranky Elder god and Scabby and Tiam's draconic daughter... can we say 'Issues'...?

good call. until book 6 i just assumed that Envy was the 'good' one and Spite would eventually side w/ tCG. of course SE doesn't work that way haha. they remind me of the Errant in a way--they seem almost helpless to their aspects. put another way, they are aptly name. Envy, does just that--makes Spite envious. In response, Spite spites her sister, her plans, etc. this is all fairly obvious but i wonder to what degree it was encoded in them by Draconus. to what degree will this simple fact dominate any alliance they make, whether w/ other char or each other (not likely)?
and of course, what will they do w dear old dad being back in the fold?

I love how both of them just give up as soon as Brood shows up.
Oh, well...maybe another time...
I wonder if Spite has any idea her father is back. Interesting that she could sense who was in the city from her ship, but she knew that no one would sense her until she set foot on the stone of the dock.

haha yeah that was one of my favorite parts of the whole book, great little teaser as to Brood's power. Does anyone know where daddy Draconus might pop up after the sword shattering? How far would be too far to sense him? maybe that's why she doesn't seem to know just yet.

I've been wondering the same thing about Draconus. What's his next move? Will he continue to make amends? Since Rake's sacrifice clearly moved him, I could see him being re-motivated.

I think that even though Draconus is a grumpy arse, he tends to have the best interests of the world/universe at heart. We can see this from the fact that he wanted to take Kallor down, I think even Dragnipur was an attempt at preservation albeit a misguided one. Therefore Envy and Spite could have taken on this outlook. Even though they are selfish bitches and squabble all the time their longevity has likely given them a wisdom which they don't really show outwardly

i wonder if those that know/knew Draconus will trust him. Seems like there's not much love for him and he'll have to prove himself in some fashion. my understanding of him was certainly changed by this book. even if his plan w/ Dragnipur was misguided, he isn't the clear villain i thought he was. He definitely was motivated, humbled, etc after seeing what Rake did

Well last time most people saw Draconus he was playing the Badass hunting down powerful ascendants to fill his sword, the last most wil have heard of him is that he got owned by Rake so I suspect most will assume he is still pissed off rather than become somewhat more reflective and even handed than before.

Well, I think he might ally up with krul to do some badass stuff. Would be a pretty potent alliance, just like when they took kallor empire down. And they could meet up with SilverFox and then we have nightchill with them as well.

plus aligning w Krul would presumably win over the characters aligned w/ k'rul as well. it'd pretty sweet if he went Kallor hunting

... but kallor owned his own empire so that those three couldn't

I was wondering about that.... recall Kallor's comment to Nimander that Kallor once tried to sanctify an entire empire to himself... i wonder whether his destruction of his Empire pre Krul/Drac/SoCN visit was an attempt to ascend to godhood that failed and he just acted like "Hey, i meant to do that!".
- Abyss, notes cats do that all the time...
