While I don't think Oldmans acting deserves more attention than ledgers, the Joker is amazing, I would actually agree that Oldman did a very good job.

When I stop thinking about a character in a film as an actor I think the actor is doing a good job. That was the case when I watched Gordon in the Dark Knight.

Of course one could argue that it was all about that moustache... Damn it's sexy!

I guess I didn't state this correctly. I don't think Oldman deserves more attention than Ledger. Ledger is what drives the movie. I just think that Oldman is not getting enough notice for what is a very seamless performance. As Apt points out above, we totally forget we're seeing anyone other than Jim Gordon.

I love Ledger's little grace note of having the Joker moving his tongue around in his mouth, like he's constantly worrying those scars from the inside.

Yeah, that was a small thing that helped sell the character for me. Also, it made him seem like a creepy old man who no longer notices what his tongue is doing.

The Batvoice made me cringe. Especially the combat pants line.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Think that whole copycat storyline was a shot at V for Vendetta?

I doubt it - it was an idea around way before the 'V' film. I don't recall much about copycats in the comic.

Saw it. Likes a LOT. Oldman's mustache wasn't nearly big and fuzzy enuf.

The Bat-Voice was somewhat silly and at times incomprehensible.
Ledger was great. Pro'ly not Oscar worthy but worth a nomination.
The visual effects for Eckhart's Two-Face also meritted a nomination - holy sh!t, the way the eyeball moved was perfect.
Still, that mustache should have been WAY bigger and WAY WAY fuzzier.

- Abyss, ....what?

Oldman's big fuzzy mustache was the high point of BATMAN BEGINS and your thinly veiled insinuations regarding my preferences cannot detract from this fact.

I see I'm not the only one who had problems with the Batvoice.

"Oooh, excuse. I'd like to drive"

For some reason that line is going through my head today.

Well a few people had a problem with the bat voice...I found it a bit of a pain sometimes myself but its just a minor annoyance. The Begins voice was better as it wasn't so harsh

Nope. I grow facial hair like an adolescent girl. I couldn't sport a soul patch if I wanted to. I bet Abyss is yearded.

I don't understand peoples problem with the bat voice. I found it more disturbing that Batman appeared in an interogation room in full light, sort of ruined his "creature of the night" persona.

I think I would had liked to see batman using somekind of voicedistortion microphone or something to explain the voice.

That would have been a good idea. They would have caught a lot of shit from the purists though.

A major amount of shit.

Batman has done the interrogation thing before (Killing Joke). He's also ridden a horse (Dark Knight Returns), dressed up as a policeman (Long Halloween), a motorcyclist (Year One), and an old woman (Dark Knight Returns, again). He does whatever's necessary, even if he looks a dick.

So yeah, the interrogation scene didn't bother me at all. I thought it was very good, especially since the Joker owned it.

The voice thing is weird. The first film was much less pronounced (I hear that a large part of the voice in the second one was actually added post-production), but it seemed so much more realistic. The voice works with very short phrases (e.g. "Swear to me!") but if you give the guy three lines to say one after the other, then you start thinking he's just sounding like a penis.

I saw this Tuesday night. I'm totally convinced that Batman Begins is a better film but I did enjoy it immensely nonetheless. Ledger's performance has been amazingly overhyped - he's good but not that good. The Bale Batvoice is a tad irritating; it's like he's trying too hard (something Batman should have no need to do imo)

And the film is nowhere near as clever as it thinks it is - it bashes you over the head with what it's trying to say, and the Joker's plots were utterly transparent. If you couldn't see what he was up to you weren't paying attention.

It was nice to see the Dark Knight Detective doing some actual detecting, rather than just running around hitting people and blowing shit up. I was also very impressed with the BatPod - particularly where it came from...
If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. Whatshisface the director has already said that the Penguin is too unrealistic. They have sort of shot themselves in the foot as far as remaining bad guys go.
