Bane.
Banebanebanebanebane.

I'm not even that huge a fan of Bane (I don't think anyone really counts him among their favourites) but he'd fit.

Then again, I also want to see a side plot involving a reimagined Harley Quinn, one of the copycats turning out to be Dick Grayson (but not a kid), earning Bats' respect and going straight into Nightwing, possibly also Barbara Gordon getting crippled, and maybe Catwoman.

So I might not be the best judge.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

They should stay away from Catwoman. The Penguin could not be done as well as Devito played him... and the riddler is shit.

Unfortunately, Batman has shitty villains, so the Riddler is the best of the rest. Depp would be interesting.

I think they should have left Two Face alive and gone with him.

The Bale Batvoice is a tad irritating; it's like he's trying too hard

heehee. i turned to Mrs McLovin and said "shouldn't he be on the toilet right now?"

but seriously, it was good. IMO, they should've cut a bit out of the middle, because this movie is long, but it felt even longer. Even the opening bank heist could've been lost. And like SM I thought Ledger was good, but not that good.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

It was good, but it wasn't that good.

Ledger was great, he was really the best thing the film had to offer. I love Bale, but I felt he added nothing new to the movie after Batman Begins. There were also quite a few cringe worthy lines in the film.

Maggie Gyllenhaal was rubbish. And ugly to boot.
It went far to long then what was needed.

There are a few other things that annoyed me, but you get my point. It was far from the second coming that you make it out to be. Not that I didn't love it of course, I just feel that you're going a bit over board in your praise.

Actually, I think you nailed all the faults of the movie in this one little post, but you're praise for the joker was so underdone as to be raw.

Heath Ledger as the Joker is simply the greatest villain I have ever seen in any movie, ever. I feel the need to watch the movie again just so I can savor his brilliance, but I'll try and watch it on Imax this time, like someone suggested. Now all I need to do is find someone who hasn't seen it already...

Finally saw it yesterday. It was great but not quite GREAT. If Heath Ledger gets an Oscar for that performance it will only be because he's dead. Not to say it wasn't good but I don't think his part of the plot gave him that much to work with once he'd sold us the anarchic clown (loved the "I'm going to make this pencil disappear" bit). My main disappointment was the plot. I'd read a few reviews saying that it doesn't patronise the audience but I thought it was quite shallow really. It was also slightly too long (despite on the walk to the cinema me saying to Mr PigDog "the longer the better as far as I'm concerned"). A giant fatty came and shoe horned herself into the seat next to me just before it started, so perhaps my discomfort added to my fidgeting but I found myself looking at my watch either side of the big action sequence on the roads.

Also, that's about the 5th film this year that I've done a massive guffaw in a packed cinema only to find nobody else laughing!! The bit where Alfred says something about the Russian for "apply your own bloody suncream".

EDIT ~ And after reading through the whole thread, re Ledger's previous performances. The best things I've seen him in before this are Brokeback Mountain and Monster's Ball (the one Halle Berry won an Oscar for I think). He's supposed to be great in Candy, but I've not seen that. I think he might get an Oscar for this because his career was leading up to one with those performances.

I don't think his performance was that legendary. I think it's quite exciting considering the last 10-20 years of relatively bland movies in terms of characters, but over entire movie history, people used to do the crazies just as well.

Yeah but then how much of the film would be about how Batman recovered from his injury?

Barbara Gordon's still a kid, and Nolan and Bale have both said they'd walk if Robin is forced into the series in any form. They said nothing about Nightwing, though, so another non-lethal vigilante making his mark while the police chase Bats around might work.

I'd rather have someone hire Deadshot to hunt him down, though.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

I liked the movie but I felt I was watching two movies in one. The second I caught the name harvey dent I quickly realized that they were setting up two face for the sequel. Well thats clever I thought. But no, they get the clown and the movie just kept going. Okay. So the bat still has to deal with spycho clown again and now two face is running around. No so lever I though.

First because as has been noted batmans villians are a little ridiculous. Yet two face could have worked. Heres a man whose villiany is grounded in the real world. He is not made from clay, he is not immortal and he is a human villian for the human batman. But they used him up already

Second the movie felt over. We dont need to battle the clown twice.

In hindsight, since Ledger is dead, it's a good thing that Batman essentially had to fight him twice, since we aren't getting a sequel.

As Batman's underage gay lover, yeah, he takes a little away from the whole dark and gritty badass image Batman has. There's probably a way it could be done well, bu I can't think of any.

Can you see a way a young boy in green pants and bright clothing who fights crime with Batman could possibly fit into the Batman Begins series?

They don't have to transplant the plot of the comic.
