Pedophiles often don't get much more than a year here in Denmark. Espcially the first offenders.

It's depressing.

Not the case in the U.S. Serious offense, most likely a class B felony, maybe class A. Would have to look it up.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Wow, I don't think I'm going to bring my kids to Denmark until that's changed.

Well generally your justice system is a bit more insane than ours, of course you also have more extreme environments of poverty and crime than us.

Life in prison is usually not more than 12-16 years here in Denmark, unless you're deemed still dangerous for the public. Robbery and Assault can give no more than 3-7 years in prison. Generally our justice system isn't out to lock people away for ever.

An encreasing attention on sexual offenders means that the punishment for these crimes is being tightened.

In what countries is chemical castration legal? Any? I'm not sure.

I think it's used in much of the western world. At least on a trial basis. Why wouldn't it be?

Or are you talking about chemical castration used on unvilling sexoffenders?

Neither does ours. In fact, judges were becoming so increasingly lenient that Congress enacted a Federal sentencing guidelines to take away much of their discretion. 3 strikes and your out is a newer condition here. A & B might net you under a year, might not even have to go to prison just sit in jail for 7 months, if it's a first offense here. Now, A & B with a deadly weapon is a little more serious.

Firstly, an actual paedophiliac act in Denmark does not result in a one year sentence. That is the lowest sentence for someone who has looked at child porn on there computer, not for any active rape or whatever. Admittedly that may seem low, but considering that would include anybody looking at porn of girls who are 17(?), that is a reasonably harsh sentence. Although I am not arguing that such behaviour is not immoral, but then again I still believe that depends on your age.

Anyways, rehabilitation is a workable a solution, and the strongest reason for imprisonment. This is especially true concerning drugs. When considering sex offenses I personally believe that a decent proportion of offenders can be rehabilitated (especially in consideration of the threat of future imprisonment (also the argument people like to commit crime so they can have a nice free time in jail, that is an extremely poor view of how living in jail is)), and those who cannot be are nearly universally mentally deranged, they really deserve are sympathy and our support (in a mental hospital), not our ire. I guess this view is based on my view that no one is inherently evil, and those who attack societies moral standards, are in fact moral deranged/deficient in some way. But even without this founding i still believe my previous premises are sound.

It has been used in the US on many occasions.

I have to agree with most of the people here. You rape someone, your life is forfeit. If you are a child molester, you should be under constant supervision when in public...forever.

I spent a year on probation with over $1000 in fines for having a pipe in my apartment, I didn't even have any weed!!! Then I did something stupid and got myself a DUI and only had 6 months probation.

The system is very screwy, especially here in Florida. We glamorize partying, then crucify anyone caught having fun (more so against pot for some reason). I no longer smoke, but wholeheartedly agree on legalizing it.

So last night I was walking downtown for some pizza at like 1am with some friends of mine,
and someone said, "I'm so hungry I could eat a whole pizza."

I said, "I bet I could eat 100 pizzas," and no one understood me. I was sad.

Yep. California, Florida, Georgia, Texas, Louisiana, and Montana all have some form of law on the books that allows this, mostly in the cases that are deemed to be "violent sexual predators". As usual, the whiny ACLU people are having a fit about it. In many states it is available if the offender requests it.
