A rather unfinished sketch of mine, but I was hoping I might get some knowledgeable commentary on it. This image is supposed to show the duality of the character, by superimposing both forms; and no, the dragon is not to scale. The eleint form is supposed to look a little softer than traditional dragons - more bat-like than reptilian. It's a bit messy right now, and I'd like to clean it up and colour it, but I'm not really experienced at either. =) Anyway, here it is:

Good job! I like it. You asked for commentary. I think Envy wears a long dress or a robe. The dragon's head looks a little horsey. Other than that, sweet.

TOO CUTE! :D

It reminds me of the catasaur dragon from Eragon.

Thanks for the response. :D

I do believe it mentions she's wearing a longer white Telaba when we meet Envy - but it seemed a little boring when I was sketching outlimes, so I uh, embellished a little. She has to change clothes every once in a while, right? o_O That said, I'm not particularly flattered by the outfit either. I need a better idea what a Telaba looks like I guess.

I did try to make the head a little horsey. It seemed to soften the features and accentuate a likeness between the two faces. I don't like how the head ended up right behind the flowing hair though, I think it'd work much better above or even ahead of her human face.

@ creffett: When one sketches one of the most seductive women in existence, one has certain responsibilities. ~_^

I always chuckle when giving criticism of art, because I can't draw a stick figure.

I think Envy's hair is quite long, down to her butt maybe, and it's black...

As for the dragon, reference pictures are a must! Look at other dragons, dinosaurs and other creatures that might resemble a dragon.

But it's looking good so far:)

Interestingly.....punching telaba into Googlypoo and various dictionaries comes up with junk or nothing.

I'm guessing its SE's take on

Hmm... her legs are different lengths!! If you want to draw a pose like that you have to get her forward knee bent more, so that it's still physically possible;)

Update!

Thanks again for the most useful and objective criticism.

Latest version below - wherein which I make reparations with regards to hair and leg proportions, gift horse-agon with teeth, redress her and tweak muchly.

Thanks for the tip on the djelaba, that did seem quite logical and gave me some nice reference ideas. Instead of being entirely faithful to the source though, I decided to leave most of the front open - it just looked a bit more interesting (hey it's a telaba, not a djelaba anyway!)

I tried a whole bunch of repositionings and re-proportionizings ( I don't think that's a word =/) for the [her] right leg, and I ended up spreading it a bit wider. It's still a bit disproportionate on the paper, but I think the perspective and tip-toed stance of the left leg demand it, so I hope I got it - at least more believably - in proportion? :D

I actually did know she should have longer black hair before I posted that last one, but I kinda wanted to post one with it like that too, just to see what she might've looked like as a blond. :D

I also threw in some kind of warren-opening-stuff around the left hand, hopefully with colour it'll look a bit more convincing.

Enough nervous rambling, here it is:
