I though the deal was for him to stay retired...2 mill a year for ten years, only if he stays retired. Was someone telling me lies?

No, you can't apply to come out of retirement after preseason games have started.

You can apply about bans or no-play penalties, but if you retired and reniged on a contract, you cannot apply for re-instation mid-season.

At least that is what the local newspaper claims.

Edit - slum he was offered 20mil from the packers to remain retired until the 2010 season, which is when his contract with them is up. A decision has not been made, but something is going to happen today since the Comish's office has to approve or deny re-instatement by the end of hte day.

But what if his reinstatement is still in limbo? Applied for, but neither accepted or denied? If they just left it as is, if Rodgers got hurt, would he be able to come back?

It cannot be in limbo. It has to be reviewed and either accepted or denied by the Commish's office within a certain amount of days (5 I think), and then if it is accepted, the packers will be over their salary cap, which is why the comish is waiting as long as he can for them to work something out.

The pack has 24 hours after he is re-instated to get under the salary cap (either by trading him, or other people, or just releasing him) before they start getting fines for being over.

From what I read they have the cap room to keep him if it came to that.

I would formally like to announce my retirement from the Packers team and to make this a permanent arrangement and not upset another player who's job I may win should I return will be pleased to accept an annual cheque for $2 million for the next 10 years !

I wish this story would go away already.

I had this very same conversation today. I would love for the packers tp pay me 20 million dollars to not play football. I'm actually waiting for the call right now...

I wonder if they'll keep him or trade him?

And now he's lost all power to veto, so the Pack can send him anywhere...even Miami, out of conference and a non-contender...that would piss him off, I bet.

Looks like the Packers are now saying there will be a competition for starting QB. Sorry, Rodgers.

Oh, and Grant resigned. Sweet.

So, what is the over/under on Rodgers jacking Brett in the face in training camp?

10 practices. Over or under?

I'll take the over. Rodgers knows that he wouldn't be able to show his face anywhere in Wisconsin if he punched Favre. I feel bad for the guy though. Who knows. Maybe he'll beat Favre out for the position.

Well, outside of Rodgers and his family, you might be the only person surmizing that an actual battle will take place. :p

It's not that i think Rodgers is a better qb. I just don' know how good of shape favre is in, nor how fair the competition will actually be. They might just be pretending it'll be competitive, and are planning to stick Favre on the bench no matter how well he plays.

Possible, but I think it is a cop out. They couldn't get what they wanted for Favre in a trade, they can't just outright release him because he'll sign with the Vikings. I think this is simply a way to make it seem as though they are being reluctant, when they would have willingly taken him back in March. I could be completely wrong.

What does Rodgers have to lose at this point, really?
