I knew it was not Neil Young, but couldn't tell you more than that.

and ventura highway
and then a lot of really bad soft rock songs
I had my friend swearing up and down and betting me a hundred dollars that it was a Young song a few months back. Bitch...she never paid up.
Turns out the America guy says he was very influenced by Young's style when writing it, since young was mega popular at the time. Young, though I don't know if he's covered it live, has never recorded it.

Easy, easy song to identify.
I make money at bars playing "Name that tune." Course I spend far more on beer than I ever win but the thought still counts.
My favourite America song is "Sister Golden Hair."

Thinking about it, it really does sound like Neil Young. I had never noticed that before.

Neil Young never ever wrote lyrics as trite as this:
On the first part of the journey
I was looking at all the life
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
There was sand and hills and rings
The first thing I met was a fly with a buzz
And the sky with no clouds
The heat was hot and the ground was dry
But the air was full of sound
On the first part of the journey
I was looking at all the life
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
There was sand and hills and rings
The first thing I met was a fly with a buzz
And the sky with no clouds
The heat was hot and the ground was dry
But the air was full of sound

Concur. That sounds way more hippy than Young, who has to me always been more associated with a grungy sort of rock 'n roll.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

I don't know. I really really love the song 'Cowgirl in the Sand" but it has some of the lamest lyrics too. Not quite as crap as above, but not really much better.
Just as well it has some of my favourite guitaring ever in it, and nearly 10 minutes of it too!

Heh, I knew the answer but only because I have the album (won in a bet from my old flatmate when we argued over who sang the theme rune to "Rainbow")
