Actually, in Canada S3 is showing up on Netflix on the same night the new eps air, so I luck out (S3 ep 1 is already up on Cdn Netflix)!

This may be the one and only time Netflix Canada does something better than the US.

Yeah, I'm not going to lie...I had been prepared (once I started enjoying the show) to catch up with S2 and have to buy S3 on iTunes...only to see S3 listed in "More Episodes" and that Netflix will be airing week to week (with the dates written under the future eps) to match the airing sched on the channel in the States...I fucking cheered and applauded Netflix Canada for that.

I quite enjoyed the pilot of Lucifer. I felt his performance was a bit uneven, but much of that is probably down to the script or the direction. I thought he was excellent when he got a bit angry, and when they underplayed the humour he was good fun. Some of the bits in between seemed a bit forced at times. But I'd hope that would get smoothed out over a few episodes.

The female lead is very good too. She seems to have good comic timing, which will be important for the banter between her and Lucifer going forward. All in all, a good start.

Whoa, cool news!

Ricky Whittle (Lincoln on THE 100) has been cast as Shadow in the AMERICAN GODS adaptation!

That's fantastic casting! He looks the part, and if his role on THE 100 is any example, he can pull off Shadow's wry, guarded nature well.

Baskets (on FX): Zack G and Louis CK's project together (CK producing). A lot of indie quirk of both the weirdness for weirdness's sake variety of say Napoleon Dynamite, and the slightly more grounded everyone's-wacky-but-also-a-little-dark of Little Miss Sunshine. Some of it lands, some of it doesn't. The highlights of that first ep were the drive-thru scene, and of course, every single moment with Louie Anderson who has several lol moments.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Anyone watch The Magicians pilot based on the books by Lev Grossman?

Got that to watch tonight when I get home.

It's on the dvr. May wait til I have a few eps in the can.

Watched it.

Am unimpressed on pretty much all points, acting, fx, story.

This wasn't a bad adaptation, it was bad tv.

Ep2 marginally better. Barely.
I really wish they didn't feel the need to tack in a Chosen One plot. The books didn't need it send it isn't helping.

So it's not following bk?

They draw on the source material, at times strongly, but they aren't really following the books beyond the basics of Quentin goes to Brakebills, meets characters with names Alice, Penny, Elliot, Margo, learns magic.

Also the Julia storyline from the second book is running parallel, and similarly changed beyond the basics of her being rejected and looking for magic in other ways.

I could parse it out in the details, but at root no, not following the books.

Anyone watching The Magicians? SyFy adapted the Lev Grossman novel. I've watched episode 1, it was ok.

I haven't read the book yet.

Up to Ep6 of S2 now, and already so much has happened! My wife, who was leery of the show to start with, ADORES it now. She demands we watch it any time we get a chance.

I haven't read the book yet.

I watched the first two episodes (the pilot split into halves) with a roomful of tweens (my cousins and other friends). They flat out loved it. Every bit of it. I quite liked most of it as well.

Good cast, wonderful scenery/sets, ripping pace, not so good at emphasizing how difficult magic is for people as only Julia really struggles to do it and Quentin/the others all have abilities already.

The Beast was terrifying tho. Very good job with that - even if they didn't do as much cannibalism/creepiness as the books have.

Will catch Episode 3 later this week.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

Very nearly hated the first ep. Second was better. Will watch at least a few more before deciding.

Other than the basics of the setting and characters, they aren't closely following the books.

I don't see why they have to - and I quite like the books.

Biggest difference is that Quentin is much, much more likable. Every main cast member is - which is different from what Grossman gave us in the books.

No issues with them deviating from the books, tho I think

Oh man Lucifer Ep 2 was just as fun as 1. I'm down with this show. Funny

I would argue that the first episode was good, but the second was great step forward. While I enjoyed the first episode I admittedly wasn't entirely sold on it. But if the show continues with the same level shown in episode 2, I'll definitely watch it till the end.
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

On Ep 2 of Colony and I'm struggling not to stop and erase it. Boring as fuck. Anyone else?

Caught part of the premier and then dvr'd a repeat of it to watch it properly. Only made it about 15 minutes and we had to pause it for something and just couldn't be bothered to go back for the rest. Like Defiance, they try bring us in post alien invasion. Unlike Defiance, I found little to nothing interesting in the little I saw.

RE: Magicians

I'm not really digging the show. If I hadn't read the books then maybe I'd like it but I'm constantly like "that wasn't in the book." It would be different if they changed stuff for the better but they're not. I may keep watching but I'm not looking forward to next week like I do with the Expanse or Game of Thrones.

RE: Sherlock
About a year ago I made a statement on here praising Elementary and y'all blasted me saying the BBC Sherlock blew it away. Well, I just finished watching the series and now I feel stupid for ever having put them in the same sentence. Sherlock is one of the best shows I've ever seen. As in ever. And only a few shows are on that list. I'm having a hard time following it. Any suggestions on what to watch after Sherlock? My dad recommended the Imitation Game but it's a movie and like a single crack rock for a crackhead - I'm looking for a crack boulder.
