Any of you TV addicts watch Big Little Lies when it aired last year? It's one of the big winners during awards season so far. I watched it and thought it was excellent. It deserves the accolades it's receiving this awards season, imo.

It's one of those series that keeps getting pushed down in my TWP, but I hope to get to it this year.

I haven't seen any of the John Wick movies but I've seen some here rave about them. Well, I just read that a television show is coming to Starz that takes place in the John Wick universe. Keanu Reeves is a producer and will make a cameo on the show. It will be called The Continental. Does that do anything for you guys?

Yes and no. It refers to a hub of the weirdo hitman mythology in the movies, which definitely has potential. That said, John Wick/Keanu are the best things about the series, and it may be wiser to leave the mythos stuff as backdrop. It's fun stuff but I imagine it'd just get hokier the more you stare at it.
You should watch the movies though, they live up to the hype.

I see John Wick: Chapter 2 is making the rounds on premium cable. Should I watch it or is it better to get the first one under my belt first?

First one first. 2 is a pretty direct sequel to events in 1.

Okay. I'll have to make a trip to one of the Redboxes in the area to get the first one.

I'd watch a show set in the John Wick universe. Heck yes I would!
In other news, The Good Place continues to be fantastic.

I thought the "interview" technique to get exposition and framing via other characters commentary was good early on, but got extremely annoying mid-way and was a disaster later.
The actual performances of the cast were amazing. Genuinely great cinematography. But the interviews were wasted from the middle on in telling us things we already knew or could figure out from watching the characters interact. So we (my partner and I) got more and more annoyed at having main story time being taken away by "these ladies are catty" asides.
The big twist was predictable just before the last episode. That's not a horrible thing, but it does mean that there may have been more room for ambiguity in the final run/editing.
The talk of abuse was very well done. It didn't feel like cheap thrills or a shallow topic to the writers and actors.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

Awesome. I started PE2 last night, first ep. Won't go into specifics but the iguanas & snakes thing is one of the craziest things I've ever seen.

Yep. That iguana was one lucky sob. I don't know how he did it. Wait until the penguin episode. If you are ever having a low energy day and don't think you can make until the end of the work day, think of them tenacious penguins. Tough little buggers, they are.

The penguin episode is the same one actually (unless there's more than one) cuz ep 1 was about Islands. And the panoramic views of their whole colony was stunning.
And yah BK I finally got a 4k a few months back. It's not that big, but PE looks great on it. It's worth it in the end.

Dark just keeps getting better. Actions that seem irrational becomes human and understandable. Weird plot points return to the story as deeply relevant.
We just finished this show over the weekend. Absolutely LOVED it. Its a German show but the English is well dubbed. I've seen it described as a "more mature" Stranger Things and that fits in a way, mainly as the younger main characters are all high school age. In some ways, it is definitely darker than Stranger Things. But I loved it every bit as much, if not more, by the end of the 10 episode first season. I'd say it has a touch of the OA about it as well. It is an absolute mind bender and had me trying to wrap my head around it/figure things out for more time than most shows do, in a good way. Very well done, imo, and the door is wide open for more. It was just signed to a 2nd season at the end of December so S2 isn't likely to appear before the end of this year or even 2019. I will be eagerly awaiting it! For those that do try it; consider taking notes from the beginning of the character's names and who is connected/related to whom. It will be helpful along the way (though its not necessary) and you'll be glad you did before the halfway point of the season. I wish I had. I fully intend to watch it again.
P.S. For those who are intrigued by what Counterpart looks like, definitely try Dark. Not the same from what i can tell of Counterpart's 1st episode, but...well, that's all I'll say.

Hey guys. I want to help you be more awesome in 2018. So a good start would to binge all of Atlanta season 1 and then watch season 2 when it begins airing on March 1. You will be more awesome. I guarantee it.

Glover said a major structural influence for season 2 is that Tiny Toon Adventures summer vacation special. Very intrigued!

Portlandia returns this week. One of the skits has dropped.
Middle aged punk rock band, Riot Spray, reunites. Awww, a subdued, thoughtful, middle aged Henry Rollins is kind of sweet to be honest.
