In preparation of seeing John Cleese and Eric idle live, the wife and I are doing a long-overdue binge of the entire Flying Circus. It's so good.

I finished the first season of the Killing this week-end. Despite my scepticism of american remakes of relatively new Scandinavian shows, I found this to be pretty good. The first episode was suitably intense, and the show has mostly avoided the american propensity for visceral violence in 'dark' crime series.

I've been binge watching Person of Interest since the weekend. I'm about 5 episodes into season 3 now. People were right, this show got good.

The crime of the week stuff doesn't really interest me. It's serialized techno bullshit. But the overarching plot is great and with the ending of Season 2, it's becoming really interesting. The police corruption angle has gone nuclear. The spy stuff and the Machine is approaching Alias levels of crazy and they keep adding layers to the characters. It's pretty awesome.

I am especially fond of Shaw. That woman is just a grade A badass. Also Root is now complete batshit insane.

I intend to binge the final season when I get a day free to do it. Absolutely love this show.

Root is one of my favourite TV characters from any show.

So aside from the finale of GoT (which I LOVED, more in the dedthread) I just finished watching Breaking Bad. Wow, what an ace show! Such intense, high drama. There were episodes where I could hardly cope with it... Glad I managed to pretty much avoid spoilers too. All in all, great stuff! Not going to ever watch it again, it takes too much, but I am thrilled with the whole experience & can see why it was so highly praised.

I should add I have no idea what to watch by myself now. Mrs Tiste and I are watching Daredevil together but we both have shows we like individually. Thinking I might give Happy Valley a shot but there is only one season on Netflix...

I have heard of both of them - will check if they're on Netflix.

Also considering giving Peaky Blinders a go. :-)

I finished the 5th season of Person of Interest yesterday.

As good as I thought season 3 was, I think 4 and 5 went way downhill. I did not like the scenario they built at all, the resolution of season 5 making season 4 feel even more idiotic in retrospect

Very little of the events made any sense other than "The plot says this has to happen so...". Nothing in the final revelations of season 5 explained to me why the Machine was so impotent, nor why Samaritan was so fucking dumb. The writers of the series made that classic blunder that sci-fi shows make, where they tell the viewer that Protagonist/antagonist is incredibly smart/powerful, and then the writers fail to actually convince the audience (me)that these characters are particularly smart.

Why on earth didn't Samaritan train thousands of soldiers to be "God Mode" units instead of just having one? And that same question goes for the Machine. Why aren't both the Machine and Samaritan running around strapping Go Pro's everywhere there is a blind spot in a city? Why are the AIs so bad at tracking people by proxy?

I wont even get into how Reece somehow gets worse and worse at shooting guns as the series progresses, nor how frustrating it became watching one shoot-out after another where the protagonists only brought a handgun and two extra magazines that they then proceed to empty down empty hallways because "cover fire looks really cool" while exposition is being presented.

On top of that disappointment I watched all of the new X-files season tonight. It is god awful. As a stand alone show called "Spooky fun FBI-Show", I actually think it was good enough, nothing particularly wrong about the writing or quality, but as a new season of X-files this was garbage.

It's like Chris Carter decided to base an entire season (well 6 episodes) on the one-off goofy fun episode that they'd have every year in the original run. The show completely forgot what made the show so great, namely the eerie, stark way the episodes used to be shot. Instead of night time shots everything took place during the day. Instead of creating a feeling of mystery and horror by never really showing or explaining what was going on, we just got fun montages and people having discussions in fields. The whole debate about whether it's science or supernatural is completely forgotten.

The opening and ending episodes felt like a cop-out, instead of a continuation of what the earlier seasons built up.

Still, there remains a great chemistry between Mulder and Scully. Somehow they managed to use the time that had passed to create a stronger bond between the characters. I wont mind watching an 11th season but this is not a show that remembers what made it great.

Tise Simeon: The Killing is real good. Slow at times, but the plot is gripping. A piece of real strong crime show. Peaky Blinders is fine but not gripping enough for me to consider watching another season.

I recently finished season 2 of Bloodline and I must say it didn't really stay with me. I finished a few days ago and I can barely remember anything. But season 1 was great, if someone likes a slow-paced, tense family drama, Bloodline is a role model. This week I'm watching Orange is the New Black.. I loved season 1 and liked 2 but 3 was total garbage, so I didn't expect to watch S4, but finally decided to give it a go. I'm 8 or 9 episodes in. It's better than season 3, but nowhere near the first season. S1 was a great mix of drama and comedy. In the current season, the prison looks more like a summer camp, with a few tense scenes. They even turned a murder scene into a joke. But the humor is still much better than in S3, I laughed out loud a couple of times.

If you liked the Killing (which I did), you should really try out the Danish original, Forbrydelsen.

I've never gotten around to watching the Danish series. Maybe I should finally get around to watching it. Somehow I have managed to avoid getting the identity of the killer spoiled all these years.

Unmmmmmm Lethal Weapon is being turned to TV set for Sept.

Ok, you made me google that:

I'm not sure what to think. I only just learned that they are making Lethal Weapons into a TV-show. Now I learn it was featuring a Wayans brother. I think I need to see a grief councilor, I am feeling like a dear friend passed away.

On a more serious note, it looks sort of faithful to the original films premise. I guess it could be good but just going by the trailer, the actors do not have the charisma of Gibson and Glover. Then again, nobody can replace those two.
