It is retelling the story from the movie, but not on an exact level. Much more fleshed out, less weird. From what I've heard it was a TV show that was pitched by the dhowrunners called Splinters about time travel and was retrofitted to be a 12 Monkeys show and incorporate its mythos and characters. The main noticable difference is the Brad Pitt charaacter is played by a girl.

Now, I like the movie (I don't love it, I have a love hate relationship with Gilliam), but the TV show blew me away.

I agree, it was pretty damn solid. I had misgivings when first watching it because I thought it'd be as weird and incohesive as the movie, but it was really good. It'll be exciting to see where they'll go with this.

Finished MARCO POLO.
It never became the awesome almost-GoT-in-Asia that i wanted it to be, the plots were never as intelligent as i had hoped (ie: not SHOGUN), and the protagonist is a wood board most of the time, but it was extremely pretty to look at (someone give the costume and camera crews a raise), the supporting casts kills it most of the time (Hundred Eyes!), had some great action scenes ( i know they were Chinese and thus, not ninja, but even so, NINJA!), and held my attention for ten eps. I'll be in for S2.

Started THE FALL, s1. Damn. Gillian Anderson is brilliant.

So I watched the pilot for Ascension.

I don't think so. It just sounds to me like Gothos was disappointed with how INTERSTELLAR played out and its themes. Don't expect a twist like Ascension.

I could see this working well as long as it was approached properly. Carter needs to realize that in the 12 years since the finale, the show had spawned umpteen supernatural procedurals and that the format has grown since the whole alien invasion/Mulders Sister/Smoking Man conspiracy theory origins...organically the shows that have followed it have kind of grown up and I would hope that any return to the X-Files would take that into account and hopefully push the storytelling into 2015 (or whenever it gets made). I'd like to see some other tackled subjects...and their bread and butter was always standalone eps anyways.

As for soft season mysteries, I'd love to see a story arc that did something like the mini-series THE LOST ROOM which was very X-Files-ish but pushed in new directions.

I guess I'm just saying the alien abduction stuff is old hat and tired, and if they want to bring that aspect back then they need to up their game.

Neither Duchovny nor Anderson are interested... someone at Fox is just trying to spark interest and maybe draw them back. I'm sure Annabel Gish and Robert Patrick would be more than happy to return tho', since Sons of Anarchy and True Blood are done.

It sounds like Chris Carter is pretty serious and it's not just Fox execs, and considering his relationship with both original actors, I can't see it as being off the table if he's talking about it this openly.

Now on the subject of the Genre growing up and evolving. They could easier go darker with the plot then they could before. Make sure the comedy remains too.

I wouldn't mind seeing a full on reboot. With the main characters.

Tie a way to start it at end of season 5-6--7.( Do a crossover with Fringe? ) Monster of week episode's for sure.

they do this they release xfiles on bluray..too!! hopefully.

I hated the film but loving the first 2 eps of the tv series, sign me up for the season if it continues like this! Really well done, quite surprised by it actually!

looks good.

The movie is amazing!! it's def one you have to re-watch.

David Duchovny has responded to Fox's desire to bring the show back, telling USA Today that he's "more than happy and excited to bring it back and do it again with Gillian (Anderson) and Chris (Carter)." He added:

I'm assuming that it will happen sooner rather than later now. We'll see what form, how many (episodes). Certainly I can't nor would I be interested in doing a full season. It will be in some kind of limited form. We're all old, we don't have the energy for a full season.

At root, i just think people are trying to overlook how bad the last two seasons of the tv show and the last movie were and recapture something that was already gone before it left.

Turns out this was Anderson's idea. She said so a a week or two ago on the Nerdist podcast.

From Vanity Fair - The big push to revive The X-Files didn’t come from Fox or even from the show’s creator, Chris Carter. It came from Scully herself, Gillian Anderson. Earlier this month on The Nerdist podcast, Anderson said she would be “f—ing overjoyed” to make more episodes of the show that jumpstarted her career. (Despite the fact that she’s currently starring in The Fall.) Anderson and hosts Chris Hardwick and Matt Mira encouraged listeners to tweet the hashtag #XFiles2015 and the response was overwhelming.

OK our sources are clearly at opposite ends of the nerd spectrum. I read that comment as being far less 'yeah let's do it!' and more 'you nerdgeeks love me because of this awesome show i once did'.

I think if FOX, Carter, Duchovny, and Anderson have all expressed interest in one way or another over the last week...this is more solid than Just FOX talking about it (which was how early reports played it).
