Saw it. Loved it.Walter's zombie pidgeons ftw!!!

Liked Lincoln-Blue as a new supporting character. hope they keep him around.

The new shapeshifters are just sick. Not sure i believe they work for Walternate. Too unfinished and ineffective. The metal ones were better infiltrators. These seem more like a failed experiment.
"More than one of them!"... nice touch.

Saw the leaf on the hand scanner. Where was the butterfly?

Actually no we can't, and Olivia and Fauxlivia's chat suggests it's still a full blown problem.

Quote

So whats Walternates game? Peter was never stolen, so whats the driving force.

Pure speculation that he's just pissed at the dissolution of his world, which was further advanced than the blueniverse.

Quote

I'm wondering if the arc of the season is going to center around the Observers and we're going to see them in more and more primary roles. How is peter coming back going to affect the "yellow-verse" timeline?

Curious how the 'main' Observer didn't trigger the device to wipe out the Peter remnants. The chat with the older Ob suggests him being the one who saved Peter and Walter back in the day and apparently changed the timeline.

Quote

Basically every plot point is changed, the producers found a way to renew every single relationship. I'm intrigued, and I think we're never going to see the "original" timeline again. Peter's return (if it occurs) will probably not alter the existing past.

This is gonna be one HELL of a season.

Yes yes yes. Tho if they were hoping to lure new viewers in i don't think this will do it, but as a longtime fan i am RIGHT in there.

I also love how now we see a third version of Olivia. Poor actress's head must be spinning like the exorcist girl.

I think she's having a blast with it, and frankly, this has shown off her acting talent way better than early seasons where we mostly got emotionally blank Olivia. Nice work on Torv's part.

And John Noble of course stelas the show for making Walter both more pathetic and more crazy.

Loved it. SO psyched to see how this season plays out.

@Abyss, the butterfly was a brief flash in the trainyard (logo for a company?) when the first two cops were pursuing the perp.

Oh it's so good to have Fringe back. I really do love JJ Abrams work, even if Cloverfield sucked. I really wish he would start the next start trek series....

You guys are missing the most important thing here. The intro was orange. Blue working with Red should be Purple intro. So obviously the only answer is that this was not the intro for blue and red universes working working together BUT A THIRD universe. The YELLOW one, working with Red. So clearly everything in this ep was the "yellow" universe. My work here is done.

Terrific start to the new season, I thought. As an Atlantis fan, I was rather pleased to see Joe Flannigan turn up - shame he didn't last long! ;)

But the new timeline in the Blueniverse is reflected by the yellow colour, altho arguably it was more amber and may be a hint that we're looking at a completely different 'placeholder' world. Blew your mind there didn't i?

Also, remains to be seen whether the Redniverse is still red, since their timeline was changed as well, tho perhaps not as radically.

And finally, purple opening credits would be ugly. ;)

Yeah, way to die offscreen Major Shepperd you slacker!

Nice bit of motivation to get Lee in as an ongoing player tho'. I liked the way Fauxlivia cracked up when she walked into the Statue of Liberty Inter-Universe Base (need a better name for that) and saw him.

It will be interesting to find out what the Amberverse players think of the joined universe base. What's the explanation for how it originated, if there's no Peter? Do they think the universes have always been joined?
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

Indeed, I wonder how long it will take to slowly handle all the questions we will obviously have that the Amberverse people don't. Like I imagine for them a lot of stuff just "is" now and we will have to learn what's missing, what's different on our own.

Also question whether, having re-ordered the universe, Peter has the ability to set it back again. The Observer at the end did not erase him, after all.

It seemed like Olivia saying she killed her father to Bolivia was to make herself seem more bad ass. Or maybe since the time-line is slightly different she did kill her father. Just like Broyles being back from the dead.

So the other universe in this timeline is the Greeniverse, right? There was the green liquid at the start of the episode that seemed like it was supposed to signify something, and the flash when they switched between universes was Green. So I'm going to be calling it that until told otherwise by a credit sequence or somesuch.

I liked this episode - it showcased the things Fringe does well. First off, it takes concepts and runs with them for longer than the standard one-and-done episodes you see elsewhere. Refreshing to still be getting Universe comparison episodes, because I think when done right it's a pretty compelling theme to explore. Plus, spending extended time with multiple versions of the same character is always fun. I loved it when they did it in (Spoilered in case you haven't seen it and don't want to know)
Spoiler
, and I love it here. But also, it had the exploration of the effect technology has on people in a way that felt human. A lot of shows with lighter tones couldn't pull this sort of plot off properly, but Fringe has the gravitas and seriousness to tug at your heartstrings a bit when it does it. They were especially good with this last season when they had occasion to do standalones, and they're continuing that excellence here.

Anyone catch the 1980s Memorex commercial reference in the latest episode? (The shot of Walter sitting slumped in the square chair in front of the speakers). If you grew up in the 80s you couldn't have missed it. Made me grin.

Anyway, I am seriously grooving on this season so far. The serial killer/criminologist guy was played spot on. All the acting is great. Looks like they are setting up a great season.

I hear now there's a Fringe comic in the works, or maybe already out. May have to check that out.

And while HEROES killed my desire to buy DVDs of a series in progress, I am debating making an exception for FRINGE.

S4, ep 2 was BRILLIANT. Seriously, way to take advantage of the storytelling openings the two-universe linked setting gives.

Some VERY cool twists on Olivia and Nolivia mixed in with the two Professors, and i totally enjoyed how the final scene in the hospital didn't shy away from discussing whether the lost memory would 'force' him to become the serial killer his counterpart was, only to have the lost memory's impact stay with him. Well done.

Anna Torv did another nice job depicting both Olivias.

Walter didn't actually do anything useful this ep except freak out, but i enjoy how manic-pathetic Noble is playing him without Peter's presence.

Yep. I can't quite remember what happened in the ep where Olivia's dad stalked her (S2? S1?) but apparently without Peter around she plugged his ass.

Not sure how i felt about Broyles-Red being back in play. His death was a major point last season. And even without Peter, they established that Nolivia did replace Olivia in the current timeline, so how did Olivia escape without Broyles-Red to help her... unless in the absence of the Peter images that helped her get her memories back she found some other way.

As an aside, i REALLY want to see a scene where both Broyles sit down and try to out-Broyles each other.

Caught it. Loved it.

While i'm sceptical about this season's ability to bring in new audience and generate sufficient ratings digits to ensure a S5, two eps in they are NAILING it as far as i'm concerned.

I wouldn't be surprised if we don't hear until close to the final six or four eps.
FRINGE and Fox have a real love/hate relationship with audience, 'live' ratings and DVR/OD digits and the cost of the series.

It helps that the production team has done an amazing job of doing more with less in terms of effects and sets, but promotion wise at a certain point Fox will throw its dolars behind a new show rather than try to hang on to a diminishing audience for a show in its, at best, final season or two. Shockingly Fox did learn something from the X-FILES.

So S5 isn't out of the question, but it may be May 2012 before we know. I just hope there's enough time for the series to have a proper endng rather than a mass of unresolved main plotlines.

I thought 4x02 was very good. Anna Torv's doing a great job with the two Olivias. Is it just me, or is Fauxlivia (or whatever she's called now) far hotter than 'our' Olivia?

@Serenity - its the red hair.

Latest ep was self-lobotomizingly good. And we finally get the long-awaited explanation of Peter's non-existence. Which isn't quite the explanation I thought, since that's not really "never existed." Semantics, I guess.

Last ep OCT 7 wasn't bad. The main evil plant plot was ok enough and the link to the kid, while obvious, was well handled if trite.

Walter dealing with the visitations by attempting to self-lobotomize was pure television gold.

My wife produced a theory that Only walter remembers peter ever existing....ever. He told the kid he had a son, but no one was around to hear the conversation. When he's trying to save the kid astrid is crying, but never hears mention of Peter, and When he says Peters name in his oops moment, Olivia only corrects him and never confronts Walter about the Peter slip.

My wife, pretty smart.
