I think that's interesting, cause I think his name sounds cooler when you say MAN instead of MUN. I think MUN sounds kinda silly... Specially when it's clearly an A! ;)

Honestly though, besides your A/U thing, and your using the "oooo" sound for U's in words like Jaghut (I say JAG-HUT, as in a HUT that a hermit might live in) your phonetics are more or less the same as mine. I really dislike your A/U thing though! :D

I think SonOfDarkness has mentioned that he's Indian. I know that in Sanskrit an unaccented "a" sounds like a short "u". So he's just applying rules from his own orthography, just as American & English readers tend to do.

Listen, I don't post on these boards to be tolerant and politically correct. Everyone should speak, look, and act like me and have the same beliefs and customs as me. Or I hate you.

Ignore, ragnarok.

Speaking of ignore, ignore my last post. It was a joke. I'm tired.

How 'bout Silchas Ruin?

I pronounce it "Sill-chaz Roo-in". Dwelling on the second name.

It has been proven beyond all reasonable doubt that the most powerful force on Wu is a bunch of messed-up Malazans with Moranth munitions.

I had to read Fear's name a couple of ways because I just knew it couldn't be pronounced "FEER",
so I finally decided it had to be "FAY-ARE" at least in my head.

Hehe, first post

Anyway I just I make a lot of the names up, just so they are easier to remember 4000 pages later. I think it i actually tried to say some of the names out loud it would sound different then how I see them when reading.

Example: Tayschrenn, I think of as trey-she-un.... completely off, but thats how I remember him and with 100's of characters running around... That's why I like the bridgeburners, whiskeyjack, quick ben, mallet, picker... such easy names.

I don't even think i read most names beyond vaugely recognizing them, like K'Chain Che'Malle. When I see that name I don't try to pronounce it, I just think of lizard looking creatures

Haha welcome to the forums! That's really funny. I have only ever met one other guy who does that (years ago when i was into wot) and it always weirded me out about him. He was a little different from you though in that he did it with easy names too. He called Aes Sedai (which I guess is pretty hard actually) A-shah-SEN-dah, but he also pronounced Perrin PUR-kin. where does the K come from!? haha anyway, he seemed to be a little more extreme than you.

For names that are hard-seeming to pronounce for ME, however, I usually just try and pronounce them in the most fun way I can find. Tayschrenn for me is TAYS-kren and the K'chain Che'Malle, which took a bit longer, are "kah-CHAYN cha-MAHL-ee" like a hot tamale. Is that even how it's spelled?

Im sort of like this too. Mostly I don't even try to figure out how I would pronounce(sp?) a name or a word even... I just read them. Would I talk about the books with someone it will be a more problematic, but since noone i know irl reads them this havent occured yet. It has with other books though, and I just seem to adapt to however the people i speak with pronounce things.
