I myself enjoyed this one:
I don't think Limbaugh has ever had children. If he did, he probably cooked them and ate them for dinner one night... Thinking it was a big chunk of lamb, or something.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

RLY, remember, Rush fancies himself as an anti-politically correct comedian of sorts. Not a terribly good one, but that quote is a perfect example of the sort of Rush comment that people take too seriously. His whole point is he enjoys pointing out how "liberals" always have to be so sensitive about everything a person says. Everyone is so ready to be "offended" by something these days.
Now you may call this "spin" on my part, but you have to admit that Rush most definately enjoys being controversial.

And he creates that controversy by being hateful and crude. Regardless of his end goal of what will happen from the hate he spews, it doesn't change the fact that he's hateful. And ignorant. And a bad person.

Look peoples,
My purpose here isn't really to defend what Rush says. Like any media personality, he tries to make himself "interesting". The guy has an enormous ego, and he loves using that to push people around.
But I can't help but agree with some of the conservative values he espouses. Most of the time I don't really care what he's talking about, or even disagree with him. But other times he has me nodding my head and thinking "that's right on". But he's not the only one I listen to and find myself agreeing with things. I've even said to myself, "wow, I actually agree with Mike Malloy there."
There is nobody in the media with whom I agree with 100%. But I feel there's something wrong with one name like Rush Limbaugh creating this OMFG HATERZ reaction. And for some, it seems like they'd rather point out some of the questionable things he's said than actually address what sort of messages he's trying to get across. It's much easier to say "well, I heard he said this, so I hate him and I'm never going to listen to him".
Well, maybe I'm weird, because I like listening to people I disagree with because I better understand their argument and can also better examine my own understandings/beliefs. To stop at a sexist comment and shut yourself off may allow for smug superiority but will make you miss what is happening beyond the random comments.

Am I? You call someone who's obviously a comedian a hate-monger, while you excuse the hate-monger who's actually being serious just because he's subtle? I don't care that you listen to him, really, but please don't try to say he's not a hate-monger just because you agree with him every now and then. I've already acknowledged that he's clever, so I don't blow him off completely, but I don't blame those who do, and for him to come up with the sheer number of objections to Obama's innocuous Berlin speech obviously required an impressive level of scorn for the man, and for him to sell that scorn to his audience is hate-mongering, pure and simple.

See, the thing is he's not a comedian who uses political material. He's a political commentator who occasionally uses comedy. The majority of his listeners don't come for the comedy. They come to be informed of how to think politically. He's not a comedian.

I assume that we just wonder why you can casually dismiss the ridiculous and awful things he says. Why does he bother with them? You can't say that he is trying to be funny, because a lot of the things he says aren't humorous.
We aren't saying you can't agree with some of his policy, what we are saying is why not get that information from another source? Why give him the sort of power he has to say ridiculous and terrible things by simply shrugging the rest of it off?
I just can't imagine why it doesn't bother you that you are listening to a megalomaniac who is espousing, in my opinion hate/demonization of the left like he was some Inquisitor from Spain in the 1500's searching for heretics.
At times I wonder what would happen if Rush was on the big news programs, like NBC radio, and how long he would last. If Imus got busted for the stuff he said, Rush (Mr. Hypocrite himself), wouldn't last a week. He has to stick to right wing news stations where only right wingers listen so that he can get away with the crap he says.

The only reason I am familiar with Rush is because my dad listens to him on the radio, and he has a job where he has to drive around a lot, and I used to ride with him to work when I didn't have school (I did this for years - I still do it every now and then). Dad loves him. Sometimes when we get to where we're going, Rush is in the middle of a rant that he just doesn't want to stop listening to, so he'll sit in the truck until Rush is done.

Poor Terez. I can only imagine that that forced listening made you just a little more liberal on the inside.
We have WOWO. It was for years the only major AM talk radio show in northern/central Indiana. I'll admit to having listened to it often. The more and more I listened the more I realized that the shows weren't really about discussion, but more often they were simply vehicles for some douchebag conservative's thoughts while he was on the toilet.
I don't know how many times I wanted to call them up, but then realized that both the host and whoever was listening wouldn't give a damn about what I had to say as I was liberal.

I don't know, maybe it's the fact that all of you keep rising to the bait that keeps me going. The scorn and hate for Rush is palpable from those of you commenting on how scornful and hateful Rush is, and that brings a rueful smile to my face.
If we started over from the beginning and I sided with you guys, we could've probably pulled off a 2 or 3 page Rush Hate Fest and felt pretty good about ourselves. But do you really hate him because of the few off-color comments, or do you actually hate him because he's an out-there-in-your-face-icon-of-conservatism, a viewpoint that you disagree with?
And like I said before, I take my news and commentary from all kinds of sources, certainly not just Rush. In fact up until two months ago I wasn't listening to Rush at all. There's good and bad with all sources, I just don't like dismissing sources out of hand.
Confession time: I'm also not a very good hater. I am just not good at hating people. Even when I get really angry, afterwards I usually feel more remorse about having been angry more than anything else. I even had a friend tell me once that I'm "oblivious to evil." I don't think I'm oblivious, I just don't find much necessity in being angry or hating much of anything.
PS to Terez: If you've listened to Mike Malloy you'd know he often goes off into angry rants. He is NOT a comedian.

I hate the fact that somehow Rush influences people. Do I hate the man? No, I think he is petty, spiteful, and ultimately a megalomaniac. He's not worth hating. He wants to be a martyr, I'm not going to give him that satisfaction.

I actually did a report on Faith of My Fathers, McCain's first book, in undergrad. We had to choose someone who had been a POW in a war and I chose McCain.
His father was very bitter and always thought that Admiral Halsey got more attention and credit than he deserved in the Pacific Theatre. And yes, he got into the Academy because he was an admiral's son. He's never been known as an intellectual, in fact if I remember correctly he kind of took pride in that in the book, that he wasn't very good academically.
