I thought Blade 2 was good but Hellboy? But then again, who am I to argue with the mark of the beast over a film with the word hell in it?

A big red red demon punching other tentacle demons in the face? Yes! OH YES!

I can't wait for The Golden Army. It looks like it's going to be twice the awesome.

EDIT: Oh my gosh, my rep just hit 666

'I'm fire proof... you're not,' was a good line.

Blade 2 was alright. Hellboy was total awesomesauce. Ron Perlman is the most perfectly casted character ever.

Pan's L was such a good movie, I even got my wife to watch it and she hates fantasy!

Yeah. I practically pulled Sarah into the movie theater, and she adored it

I got my wife to watch Pan's Labyrinth. It was tough. This is the approximate conversation, in a spoiler tag for those who haven't watched it yet because it reveals some plot points.

Spoiler

Needless to say, she did not fall asleep, loved it, and now ranks it as one of the best movies she's seen in a long time. I love doing that.

You have seen the path of light, my son. You are forgiven. Now go forth into the world and spread the word of the Shire.

Del Toro seems an odd choice for a director - what else has he directed before?

Pan's Labyrinth and Hellboy.

I'd love to see the second film take the major events of the Silmarillion. That's my favorite book of all time.

I read somewhere that the second film will follow Gandalf and the other wizards (Saruman, Ragagast etc) when they attack the Necromancer in Dol Guldur.

I know the event gets mentioned in The Hobbit but only in passing and del toro and jackson want to expaned on that story.

i think its to cover stuff mentioned off screen in the hobbit and the 60 year gap leading into the lotr, the hunt for gollum possibly as well then.
the resurection of dale and possibly saurons hunt for the ring.

ETA, i lack my lotr at the miute for timeline, but possibly the attempted re-occupaiton of moria?

Is there basis in the stories for that or would they be making up an entirely new script? I've only read the trilogy + the hobbit, and all of those more than 10 years ago.

some word is that they will pull things from the silmarillion, some is that they would tell some of the story between the hobbit and lotr. which if i recall is only outlined in various spots. so they would be extrapolating based on available information

Beorn - Ron Perlman

I have a hard time picturing someone his size (6' 2") playing a dwarf like Thorin. But then again John Rhys-Davies played Gimli and he's 6' 1".
