I am reading the PS version and I am surprised at the number of typos that seem to have got through final proofing - this is not my usual experience with PS - anyone else noticed that seems higher than usual?

Other than that - the book is a great read!

The ARC is full of typos, but I was hoping that the final version wouldn't suffer from this shortcoming. It was the same with NoK, if I remember correctly...

It's slightly annoying, I cannot fathom how it could have gone through proofing with these mistakes. I could have knocked off all the mistakes in one proof read...surely someone should have been employed to do this; it's simple.

I think the other aspects somewhat make up for the proofing problem but it's slightly disappointing.

But:
This will be the last time I shell out so much for such a poorly edited product. Is Esslemont's first language English? What about his beta-readers, copy editors? I am not talking merely of typos, of which there are hundreds, but even grammatical howlers.

If the author and his editors can't be bothered with even minimal proficiency in the English language, fuck'em. I will wait for the cheaper editions.

What he said. I am seriously dissapointed in shelling out £70 for a book that's this full off gramatical errors and spelling mistakes. I can count ten of them that annoyed me at the last read at the top of my head; and even then i read about 30 pages.

I.C.E and publishers, next time, please look at the book you're sending out to loyal fans who're willing to dish out a lot of dough. When we get dissapointed, imagine what other fans will be. And the ones of us who are reading this book will be telling all their other friends about this book, but surely you don't want their first words to be "Yeah, it's good story, but it's really crap to read, so i wouldn't bother"?

Gosh...seems to be quite bad then. We'll I'll be my own judge once I read it, if only that book would finally arrive, argh!

But I do remember that there were already some similar issues with the LE release of NoK, but these were only few and far in between.

I'm also really enjoying the story, but the typos and especially the grammatical mistakes can be distracting. Especially if I have to stop reading and figure out what a certain phrase was *probably* supposed to mean.

Im on page a hundred and i've encountered a BUNCH OF TYPOS ALREADY. The story is great, and I'm having fun reading, but the overall experience is seriously diminished by the poor editing. I don't understand it. These are easy errors to indentify, i just don't get why no one fixed em. I've had to stop reading because of typos multiple times to try to figure out what ICE was saying.

It's still a damn good read so far though.

I haven't cracked it open yet, but if it is as bad as people say, will any of you e-mail PS publishing and complain, if no, why not?

We could compile a list of all the errors we see, pages and line numbers and have everyone e-mail it to them. Hopefully at least get them to issue an apology?

Or maybe it's our fault for whining about the delays? Just kidding, they still released an incomplete product, like Vista!

For the price that you guys paid I say that wouldn't be too bad of an idea. Hoepfully bantam will correct the errors

Bantam is a good publishing house.

I imagine they can afford microsoft word, and they probably have an intern who understands how to use spell check.

I mean, sure, you'd get a lot of hits from made up Malaz words, but I'd imagine you could find someone who knows the difference.

Tavore spelt as Tavor (very minor)
Dessembrae spelt as Dassembrae (very annoying)
I'm sure someone else will find grammatical errors. There are enough of them but I can't remember any off the top of my head.

The one I picked up on (and can remember) that irritated me was corpse instead of corps which just made me lose track of the scene.

I have already emailed Pete Crowther at PS Publishing but got their out of office notification - I think until next Tuesday - so hopefully will hear next week. Having finished the first volume and well into the second, the typos have become increasingly irritating which does diminish the enjoyment.
