You know, a thread about who could survive an Azath's attempt at capturing them could be interesting.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Could ANYONE stop an azath from taking them? For some reason my immediate reaction is no.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Well, Icarium killed one, for starters. Not to mention the Hounds escaped Tremolor's attempt to catch them, and there are more powerful entities than them. Any more might be spoilery.

I've read through Reapers Gale, but not TTH or Return, but then again, this is the MT forum.
I'd forgotten about the azath destruction. Valid point.

Here's a very non-specific example
So it can be done.

I believe so. What exactly does that spoil though, it's pretty generic?

@ Creffett - Apologies if you felt the above was a spoiler. I deliberately kept it really vague, which is why i didn't spolierise it initially.
Just wanted to point out that a human is capable of escaping an azath, not just super ascendants/gods like Icarium or The Hounds.

Damn, I need to read NoK. I have a feeling I know who it was though. Maybe. I've read basically everything down in that forum.

In GotM the Mallet refuses to go near the newly born Azath house for it "senses me with ..... hunger" or something like that. Now if an Azath house is bothered about capturing a lowly squad healer who is said to only command Denul (in my opinion I think he controls High Denul e.g. mending Trott's ripped out throat but that is beside the point) it would definitely want an entity such as Iron Bars who has taken part in a ritual so powerful it can keep Hood at bay.
Just my lowly opinion of course......

i think you people read way to much intot his stuff. it is a fantasy novel after all so why not rip someones jaw off. epsecially if he is moving at superhuman speed. fingers through the side of the cheek clamping down, thumb below fingers above and a side ways tug. booom no more jaw
plus they mention the diadam they have offering forty odd supportive spells to make them all faster and stronger.
skinner would kick his ass i think:)
"Peace, there is peace at last!"
skinner shots guy with crossbow.
"Now, now there is peace."
what a dude:D

Uhm was that a RCG spoiler? Because I distinctly remember that quote as being from a Fisher piece in BH or something?

Yeah, it's a chapter header from an earlier book. I think MT.

So it's not really about skinner at all? I don't remember Skinner mentioned in that poem... was it called Skinner?

Yes, it's called the Lay of Skinner. It's written from his POV, about a crazy man running around shouting, "THERE IS PEACE!" until Skinner shoots him with a crossbow and says, "Now there is peace."

You see that's what I get by skipping all tose chapter starters: I miss all these things!

You skip those, you miss a LOT.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"
