An important step forward in the ongoing saga of the Song of Ice and Fire TV adaption: the BBC and HBO have agreed to coproduce the series.

Looks like they're definitely trying to go down the Rome route then. This is certainly positive news
Although it does mean they might go right and out and show a Tyrion sex scene... bad images.

Problem is, didn't Rome get canceled early due to the expensive budget? That would do nothing but piss me off. And you wouldn't like me when I'm angry.

Meh, Is anyone expecting it to get good enough ratings to last more than one series anyway? I'm not, I just want that one series to be awesome:D

It might. I'd imagine that everyone who enjoys the books will want to watch it. Even people who've never heard of GRRM might watch it, simply based on HBO's rep for putting on good shows.

Yeah, if Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings are any indication, there might be a good market for raising the stakes in the fantasy-series-cum-film industry.

ASoIaF won't have such a huge budget as it's not going to be filmed in Italy (the most expensive place in the world to shoot, apparently), as HBO insisted on Rome. The Tudors, which certainly looked the part even if it wasn't as well-written or acted as Rome, had a much lower budget (about a third that of Rome's) because among other things it was filmed in Eastern Europe, asASoIaF will be.
I doubt we're going to get seven seasons and I can't imagine how they'd handle Books/Seasons 4-5 if they got that far (you can't tell most of the cast to take a year-long break and come back the following year). I'm just hoping we get 2-3.

I don't know why you guys do that to yourselves. When the book finally comes out you'll have already read a significant chunk of it.
Different reader mentalities, I'd say. I'm one of those who reads the first chapter in a book and then switches to the last pages before I continue. Evil, I know.
It's also the reason I joined this forum after having read the first book since I don't mind the spoilers. I only can't comment that much in those threads.

Bah! I don't know why I look on Martin's website, it only pisses me off. How is ever going to get this book done if he's wanking around Spain? I need to ban myself from going there, nothing good ever comes from it.

You guys are forgetting, its that time of year again. Time for the traditional "Running of the Apathetic Authors Distracted by Their Own Fame".
I heard he gored a Goodkind fan at least. Twisted some horns from Cheez Whiz left in his beard and gutted the twerp like a jumping salmon.

Before you get too excited, its just a pic I found on google images, and added the talk bubble. Any resemblance to actual fat authors is purely coincidental, and not worth litigation.
