So, as a reaction to the worst casting topic, here's the exact opposite.

I was seriously impressed by the casting in Iron Man. They got every chacater just about spot on, IMHO, especially Tony Stark and Obadiah whatsisface.

Daniel Craig as James Bond - I think he's the best bond since Connery. Perfect choice for a modern interpretation of the character.

Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/The God Damn Batman - He was great in Batman Begins - Heavily muscled, intens and believable as both the playboy millionaire and slightly psycotic crime fighter.

Kurt Russel in Death Proof - He made that film watchable, best performance I think I've sen him do, the ending ruined even that though...

Boondock Saints was very well cast.

Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus made excellent irish vigilantes.

The Dune Mini-series was also very well cast,

Alec Newman is an awesome Paul Atreides and Ian McNeice was perfect as the Baron.

HBO series ROME

Verenus, Pollo, Caesar, Cicero, Marc Antony....pretty much everybody except brutus was awesome in that one

Also agree with the dune miniseries. Very good

Anderson as Col. O'Niel in Stargate SG1. Just suits the role so well.

Patrick Stewart as Cpt. Jean Luc Picard, and honorable mention to Michael dorn and brent Spiner as worf and Data, respectively.

As I'm one of the few people who like David Lynch's version of Dune, I guess I shall also be one of the few to stand up for some of the casting decisions made for it: Brad Dourif as Piter De Vries, Patrick Stewart as Gurney Halleck, Francesca Annis as Lady Jessica; all work very well IMO.
If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. myself as hugh hefner.

seriously, i could SO play that role.

to further the Batman begins love, i'd add Oldman as Lt. Gordon. I thought he was very good as the 'one honest cop' type.

particularly as he wasn't against the system, he just came across as having been worn out by the system.

ian mckellan as gandolf
arnold as the terminator
gene wilder as willy wonka*
gene wilder as dr frankenstein*
peter boyle as the monster
johnny depp as willy wonka**
sam rockwell as guy fleegman(him and tony shalhoub totally stole the show in galaxy quest)

*=wilder is god in anything, but he is the most perfect person of his era(and perhaps all time) to play the role of a divinely insane idiot savant
**=depp is the only modern actor i think of that can pull off the same schtick nowadays wilder did back then

edit: christopher lloyd as doc brown, and he could probably pull off dr frankenstein pretty goddamn well. he's a great mad scientist

Bruce Campbell as Bruce Campbell in I Am Bruce. The role he was born to play.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

For film - the entire cast of Lord of the Rings should have got a special combined cast Oscar - I couldn't imagine anyone else inhabiting any of those roles.

For TV - entire cast of Battlestar Galactica is sublime, but especially James Callis as Gaius Baltar.

Oh, Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow?

To continue the pedantic streak, Ray, you should have quoted the original offensive post followed by coco's, because now it looks like you're disagreeing with the correction.

Trying to decide if this thread is a list of good casting or good actors...

Some additions:
Russell Crow as Maximus.
Will Smith in I AM LEGEND, Ali and Pursuit of Happiness.
Flying Monkeys definitely win.
