mappo comments how soletaken is a disease, but later heboric rubbishes that theory and says they are born soletaken or d'ivers.

my guess is they take the form most suited to them and if they are mages can probably manipulate their chosen form.

Mappo isn't saying soletaken-ness is a transferable diesease, he's talking about how people who get stabbed, slashed, bitten, clawed, etc. by soletaken or d'ivers get infected with their magic, go insane and die. That is the disease.

There are many paths to Soletaken-ness

It seems to me that snce we've never seen someone else with the abilty to change what animal they turn into, this is an inconsistency, a DGism if you will. Or, He could have been the only one to ever be able to do it. My guess though is that SE later made up his mind that they only have one form, but it was too late to change it here, or he forgot.

"I've (Felisin) heard all it takes is a bite."

He (Kulp) went still and slowly turned to her. "You heard wrong. It's common enough ignorance, I suppose. A bite can poison you, a cyclical fever of madness, but you do not become a shapeshifter."

"Really, then how are they created?"

"They aren't. They're born."

well that settles it i guess.

and to use proper documenting techniques, kulp and felisin should be in brackets not parentheses

Oh shit RLY is digging deep! He's thrown down the GRAMMAR GAUNTLET!!!

I thought soletaken and d'ivers were born as well...yet Rake couldn't turn into a dragon until after he drank Tiam's blood....right? So maybe you can be born or turned.....kinda like a werewolf :(

I didn't throw the grammar gauntlet, he did. I just picked it back up and slapped him in the face with it!

There is more than one exception to the born, not made rule. The other I'm thinking of takes place in a later book so I won't discuss it right now. I think the rule is "Soletaken are born, not made, unless SE decides this is a good places to have one be made instead of born."

"YEAH, WELL TAKE THIS!!" ((it's in dialog so it's safe to use improper grammar.)"and yes, you do know the pronoun antecedent for it's)."

HA. SUBJECT VERB AGREEMENT!!! (this doesn't count as a fragment) "i think you meant these are good places or this is a good place"

*wrestles gauntlet from raymond and backhands him*
see, not just a slap but a backhand!

That, sir, is a typo, not a grammatical mistake.
*dodges gauntlet, watches bhok'arala hit himself in face with it, because typing in all capital letters is clearly not in line with proper grammer.*

that's not grammar, thats comprehension!

*ducks under gauntlet and spins, hitting RLY in the balls*

here's a lesson in physics: if i am backhanding, without any othre force acting upon my hand, my hand would continue and then hit the back of my head. not my face.

Unless your arm wrapped all of the way around your head and came around and hit your face. How am I supposed to know if you have super-long super-flexible arms or not?

well, i suppose you couldn't.

either way, you didn't dodge the gaunlet fast enough. (see post immediatly above)

*RLY's balls are smacked so hard by the grammar gauntlet that they spin around him once, twice, thrice! times around his abdomen*

when paran is having a conversation with kruppe (a litlle one sided if you ask me) kruppe says the above once, twice, thrice thing but he adds in a fourth. i can't seem to remember the word he used.

*bhok'arala reserves another wrap-around for later to use at his discretion* yes i can do that
