Now ive not seen this question put before. Maybe that's because ive not looked but there you go. Handsome is as Handsome does.

Im also going to try to not er........... " Rabble Rabble " to quote Apt, and do a Krup either.

Im on a re read. And i wondered. Why didnt the sheild Anvil welcome Pran Chole and his 10,000 warriors when he first met them?

The very first meeting when the Tlan Ay turned up fr the first time too.

Surely they were still unfathomably in pain after 300,000 years of memories etc. And surely he was the Sheild Anvil too then.

Perhaps he has a switch that he can turn on or off?

Green for "absolution" , Red for " Your out of luck Pranni my boy Eastenders is on "

Who knows.

I just thought it quite strange and a bit of an irregularity.

Handsome.
"I think i was a bad person before. Before this time. I do not try to be good now but i am not bad. Perhaps if i try harder i may get a better hand dealt next time? But surely that makes it pointless? Perhaps i am good. Just good at being pointless. But that would make me bad. Bad at having a point. Ah…. I see now. I was nothing before, I am nothing now. I am bad purely because im pointless. "

Another one of those "don't think too hard on it" subjects perhaps?

At the time Itkovian meets the T'lan Imass, he hasn't learned that Fener is gone yet. Perhaps the Shield Anvil isn't supposed or allowed to just soak up pain at will. Maybe he needs to check with the big hoof or ask permission from the Mortal Sword.

Fener wasn't pulled down yet. When Itkovian tried to take their grief Fener recoiled. Only after, when no one's stopping him to commit suicide, he goes ahead and does so.

Aye, I'm fairly sure it was mentioned that Fener pulled him away when he thought about doing it.

After Fener was gone, there was no such restraint.

He mentions that when he met the Imass later on in the book, Fener wasn't shielding him from them. Man, the Elder God's plan sucks.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

So basically chaps, Fener is a bit of a git.

Itkovian had nothing to back him up. His soul was naked and being a Shield Anvil a vast chasm in which to pour pain and affliction and knowledge etc.

Upon meeting the Tlan for the first time he would of been protected. The tap would of been shut tight. Upon Feners subsequent falling and the legging it of the god, he was left bare. The tap was gone, let the pain flow.

Fair enough.

I always find it funny how much more i notice whenever i do a re read. This must be the 5th time I'm sure, but i had never really thought about all of the above before.

That made his action more heroic, IMO. He wasn't just passing the burden on to Fener; he was making a free choice to take it himself with all that implied.

Mostly a boar, though. Half boar, nearly half man, with just a little hint of git for flavour.
