The Bonehunters

Ok, so for no reason at all other than sheer boredom I've compiled a list of the names of the Bonehunters - that is, those dudes of the Malazan army who made it out of Y'Ghatan by crawling underground in TBH and form what could, I guess, be described as the elites of Tavore's army - or at the least the guys who get the most 'screen time' of normal soldiers. I use the term 'normal' loosely.
Some have, as of Reaper's Gale, shuffled off the mortal coil, and I have highlighted this with a note next to their name and a number which denotes the order they died in - i.e. 1 = first of the Bonehunters to die. Any inaccuracies in the list are probably partially my own fault....ok, all my fault then.
So, "fun" questions to ask from this:
- Who'll be next for the chop?
- Will any survive?
- Who's your favourite?
- Whom do you dislike the most?
N. B. I'm in two minds whether to include Faradan Sort and Sinn on the list. I know they didn't go under Y'Ghatan, but they did accompany those who did across the desert and suffered the same ravages and kinda bonded with them along the way. And I guess to some extent Faradan Sort could be seen as their commander. And is it possible to include Gesler without including Stormy? But I've left them off for now.
So here it is:
1. Balgrid
2. Balm
3. Bottle
4. Bowl - Killed by a Tiste Edur warrior (4)
5. Brethless
6. Corabb Bhilan Thenu'alas
7. Cord
8. Crump
9. Cuttle
10. Deadsmell
11. Ebron
12. Fiddler
13. Flashwit
14. Gesler
15. Hanno - Killed by a Letherii soldier (1)
16. Hellian
17. Iutharal Galt
18. Koryk
19. Limp
20. Lobe
21. Lutes - Killed by a Tiste Edur warrior (5)
22. Masan Gilani
23. Maybe
24. Mayfly
25. Ramp
26. Reem
27. Saltlick
28. Sands - Killed by Letherii magic (2)
29. Scant
30. Shard
31. Shortnose
32. Smiles
33. Tarr
34. Tavos Pond - Killed by a Tiste Edur warrior (6)
35. Thom Tissy
36. Throatslitter
37. Touchy
38. Tulip
39. Urb
40. Uru Hela - Killed by a Kenryll'ah demon (3)
41. Widdershins
Ta-da!

Kinly and Pores. I was laughing my ass off when I read that part.
Unfortunantly I don't think they are a part of the Bonehunters... are they?

Thanks couldnt for the life of me remember their names
Isn't the entire army called the Bonehunters or is it just the people who climbed out of Y Ghatan?

I think it's only the company that came out of Y'ghatan. The rest is still called 14th... I think.

Oh ok but then that makes the number of Bonehunters really few so yeah that would be the above list.
Then i cant find Ebron or Limps name anywhere in the book except on the ship saying that they were Bonehunters now. I mean they werent down there with Bottle and Cuttle and the others.

I remember Limp being under Y'Ghatan because he busted his leg again. And pretty sure Ebron was there too but will have to check. Kindly and Pores were separated from the rest of the Ashok Regiment in House of Chains and seemingly never rejoined once they all came to be part of the 14th.

I was under the impression that "The Bonehunters" referred to the entire 14th. This started not at Y'Gatan, but when Grub held some bone above his head at muster in Aren. It was a bad omen that was "turned" by the veterans by digging up graves and wearing bone fetishes. It was solidified later, after the Y'Gatan survivors returned, when Tavor referred to the 14th "we are the bonehunters" or something close.
Also, the group that came out form under Y'Gatan is like half that size in my mind, I don't necessarily keep track of that kind of detail so I don't know for sure. You are probably right.

Ha ha, I know, it does look like too many people! But honestly, I only wrote down the names of the ones definitely mentioned as having reached the temple in Y'Ghatan and then during the scenes underneath the temple. I think credit has to go to Erikson for keeping so many characters 'on the go' in those scenes, quite a difficult challenge. It's one of my favourite parts of the entire MBotF, all the switching between soldiers and getting loads of impressions of the experience they were undergoing.
And yes, you're quite right, the Bonehunters can refer to the entire 14th. But there is also a bit during that Y'Ghatan scene or soon after it when one of the soldiers (perhaps Fiddler, I can't remember) reflects and says something like 'now we truly are the Bonehunters' and also compares it to the baptism of Raraku that the Bridgeburners underwent. So I've chosen to think of this group as the true Bonehunters
I'll have to dig up the appropriate lines when I can.

Actually it was Tavore who said "Bonehunters in truth." and Bottle who likened it to the Raraku incident, but he thought that Y'ghatan had left them brittle. /nitpick
There's a fine line between genius and insanity. I have erased this line.

Whatever the classification, I bet we can all agree Bonehunters isn't as cool as Bridgeburners.
Apart from Fid and his Justice Squad, who's your favourite squad? Mine's Sgt. Balm's because of Galt and Lobe. Those two are seriosuly awesome.

@ Sinisdar
nitpicky but true
My fave squad would have to be Hellian's. Touchybrethless is classic. And the heavies can be funny too. I love Balm for that scene in TBH just before Y'Ghatan where he totally forgets everything. They're all great!

You're right, I do remember there was a correlation made between the group under Y'Gatan and the Bridgeburners in Raraku, So I can see you singling them out.

What are you on about?
Not only are the Bonehunters at least as cool as the Bridgeburners, we're actually seeing the insane stuff the Bonehunters are going through while the Bridgeburners legends are just barely known, hinted at events.
You thought that the BBs had been through a lot? Imagine being in Y'ghatan, fighting your own people on Malaz and standing in the light of Beaks death ritual - Great and terrible things are in store for the Bonehunters.

Sure the Bonehunters are really good and maybe a legend someday
But the BB s RULE
Their 1st engagement 70 guys took out a stronghold of 400
And then they must have done some pretty good stuff in Mott wood as well cause they were running low on supplies outnumbered and not on home ground and still they held out for quite long even though they did take a beating.
They has the sheer audacity to start playing their card games in the middle of the freaking war i mean come on thats freaking cool
although the Bonehunters do have great things in store for them its just that we can see what they are going thru and we didnt see what the BB s went thru at their prime which i would love to know about

"sighs in deepest melancholy"
I meant.... the name...
The characters are equally fabulous. Mind you, I think I miss the dead BB's more than the dead BH's.
EDIT: "laughs, remembers card game"
