I'm not so sure that's true.

If you think back to when Greyfrog was telling L'oric the story about his people and their gods, he mentioned the fanatics that took over his people.

'The God died with the very first drop of blood spilled in his name.'

I would imagine that it would be determined by the personality and the nature of the god in question.

The God could have killed himself, or died of shock. A rather unfortunate accident if you ask me. We don't know enough to come to a concrete conclusion (which works both ways), good point though.
